Immortal Technique
I am looking for anyone similar to Immortal Technique. He is one of the best lyricist I have heard recently and I was hoping someone knows of other somewhat underground rappers with a sound like Immortal Technique, Nas, Biggie, Pac, Luda, Wu, or the old Mobb Deep (u know, quiet storm, shook ones, get away) the good stuff. Holla at me with some advice. I'm always looking to find more talented musicians. Thanks to anyone with advice

Sage Francis has reallyreally good lyrics.

Man
You must be the only person on this planet who knows more music than I do. I thought I was doing good with the extensive knowledge I have of all music categories but you have obviously surpassed me. Who knows. Maybe there is music I know that you don't. It's great to see a kindred spirit who thrives off of the passion that music can create . Thank you.

sage francis is ten thousand times more popular then immortal tech you don't have to be sum music god to know him
|
as for music that sounds like immortal tech, sage francis doesn't sound one thing like him, listen to jedi mind tricks or dead prez. what you want is hardcore hip hop, sage francis is artsy sh*t for people who don't like rap

False. He's socially conscious, white, and has better flow than many rappers. I listen to most of the Wu-Tang clan solo albums. The best to be is GZA's Liquid Swords. But comparing IT to anyone is kinda stupid. The man has a one-of-a-kind diction and delivery |
i don't understand how wut i said was false since:
1. i inever said he wasnt socially conscious 2. i never said he wasn't white 3. i also never said his flow wasn't better then many rappers. having a flow better than many rappers doesnt mean much since, many rappers have terrible flow. a mediocre flow is better then many rappers. as for technique not being able to be compared to, i agree. tech is dope, his music is fresh and he even makes talented underground rappers look wack! but for music dat sounds like his i would say the closest is jmt and dead prez. he is often compared (sound wise) to each of them |
considering I grew up on rap
It's going to be tough for you guys to come up with anyone I haven't heard. Jedi is tight, Prez is dope as hell, Wu-Tang is one of the Gods of rap. Liquid Swprds is a classic. And yes, Crowquill has recommended much music to me in other genre's. I was referring to the fact that he was recommending rap music as well. He knows a lot of different types of music and I think that's cool as hell. I am really looking for some underground stuff, Tech is fairly unknown especially in smaller cities where I live and I am looking for people like that. Thanks again guys

eyedea trounces all over immortal technique, even though im an I.T. fan. ive got a track of them freestyle battling, and eyedea cuts him off at the knees. also chck out chino xl and murdamook.
|
"The Further Sounds" isn't as hardcore, but they seem to be pretty intelligent.
Check it: http://www.myspace.com/thefurthersoundscrew |
Eyedea better than Tech? I have a lot of Eyedea's stuff and he's str8 but I don't feel he is even on Tech's level. I've heard the freestyle battle you speak of and yeah, Eyedea did get him, but Tech's flows are considerably more intricate and crafty. Murdamook is alright. I like a few of his songs. Keep them comin guys. The first person I haven't actually heard is the further sounds. I've heard everything else. The rapper doesn't have to sound like Tech, just be a talented fairly unknown rapper.

Check out some videos of Iron Soloman and iLLmaculate (Sandpeople). Great rappers.
|
Have you ever heard of Punch & Wordsworth? They did a compilation called Lyricists Lounge that is dope.

You don't think I know his lyrics? Hah.
The only songs of his that storytell are You Never Know, Dance With the Devil, and to some extent Peruvian Cocaine. Maybe you should look at some of those lyrics buddy. Also, if you're such a fan, I would think that you would know that Immortal Technique is one man, not a group. Quote:

well i guess you and i gave different definitions of "telling a story." and yes i know that immortal technique is not a group. if you actually read my post you would realize that by "they" i was referring to IT, Eyedea, Chino xl, and murdamook, the rappers that i had previously recommended. why dont you think before you type next time, so you dont look like a dipshit again.
|
i would like to add that i normally dont listen to any rap at all, as i hate most of the genre. however I once heard an immortal technique song in my friends car and was like "wow, this is great! what is it?" and now im a fan of immortal technique. hes the only rapper i listen to.

hes definitely unique

it is a dope rapper fo sho

Immortal Technique
I am new to the forums but love immortal technique aswell, the only thing i dont get is when people talk about immortal technique, why do they say his politics are crazy? I mean he makes sense of what he says, anyway im new so someone please reply thanks!
favourite songs: Cause of Death 4th Branch Land of the Gun |
I enjoy Immortal Technique, but I've really burnt myself out on him. I agree you should check out Sage Francis, aswell as almost everyone on Rhymesayers (aesop rock, eyedea, brotha ali, slug). Also someone mentioned Wu-Tang's members solo albums, and I completely agree, most of their **** is really good. Also look into blackilicious. Other than that, Tech n9ne, brotha lynch, and x-raided, I don't really listen to much rap.
EDIT: Mos Def. I love the guy to death, but he is REALLY hit or miss. When he hits though, the **** is out of the park. |
i think RHYMEFESTkillah hit the nail on the head suggesting jedi mind tricks. thats abt as close to immortal technique as youre gonna find.
|
what ever happened to that Gangstarr? NOW hes brilliant, not to mention his originality.

I don't understand pointless, incessant arguing over who is better than whom when it comes to any genre of music - including hip-hop. We have our own preferences, so why not just respect that aspect of listening, discussing and suggestions?
Though there are numerous artists out there who make music in hopes to explain or suggest their political and societal perspectives, I think those who fall under the category of hip-hop are rare. I've yet to hear anyone with lyrics and flow such as Immortal Technique. Not only is he pursuing and urging an awakening in the people, but he is evolutionary to the hip-hop world. Sure, I respect and enjoy a good story teller, freestyles, and hip-hop artists who set there focal point on blunts, guns and bitches, but a person who can help expose the government and the media as the cowards and puppets they are, truly deserve a higher level of recognition than the redundancy that is consistently recycled on the radio and in clubs. |
Immortal Technique doesn't deserve recognition for that considered most of the things he "exposes" are stupid conspiracy theories (e.g. George Bush blew up the World Trade Center.) If anything he deserves to be mocked along with Mos Def for pretending he knows what he's talking about.
|
If you want a good lyrical rapper, check out Saul Williams
|
Immortal Technique really lays on the pseudo-intelligent BS pretty hard, but he's still a decent rapper. If I really wanted to listen to conspiracy theories I'd pull out a Jedi Mind Tricks album.
|
I agree, I often find myself listening to him and wondering if he found that certain conspiracy at the same website I did. When he breaks away from that though he has some really good songs, like "You Never Know ft. Jean Grae".
|
Agreed on Saul Williams and the song "You Never Know".
As for "conspiracy theories", I'd prefer to not talk about them in this thread. I don't know if I could clump Mos Def and I.T in one group, sleepyjack. And yeah, they can come off a bit like know-it-alls, but what rapper doesn't have that type of attitude at one point or another? Also, I.T states in one of his songs of Revolutionary Vol. 2 that he doesn't think Bush blew up the twin towers. As for what he raps about, it's not strictly "conspiracy theories" - what about the songs in which he speaks out against racism? And what of the songs about freedom and oneness? If you think speaking out about this makes him a conspiracy theorist and that we truly are free and one, I don't really know what else to say. |
Oh I didn't know he put out another album. Is The 3rd world any good?
|
I've listened only to a few tracks and they were alright. I don't know if any of this albums will compare to Vol 2. I have it on vinyl and it's so much better! His work is by no means perfect, but who's is?
|
333, I really hope you don't think I was trying to pigeon hole what Immortal Technique stresses in his music, but a good amount of his material does across that way.
