I think the most disappointing moment of researching music is when I found out the MF in MF Doom stood for "Metal Face/Fingers", not "Mother F*cking".

Surell 12-25-2011 09:21 AM

Is that it? Darn, i thought the same thing.

Engine 12-30-2011 02:24 AM

You guys find the moniker 'Mother Fucking Doom' more interesting than 'Metal Face Doom' or 'Metal Fingers Doom'?
Grow up.

Surell 12-30-2011 09:01 AM

Metal face has no subtlety and metal fingers is unfounded. Motherfucking? Who can argue with that? It's got menace, too.

Aren't these some of the qualities that make Doom great?
'Motherfucking' is boring and that's one thing that Doom is not. He's also not very menacing.

Sparky 12-30-2011 02:28 PM

I'd say a lot of doom's wit is subtle, he's isn't the most obvious lyricist for sure.

How is metal fingers unfounded? He was a respected producer before launching his solo rap career.

You really think a guy who's too antisocial to perform at his own shows is going by a "mother****ing" moniker? He's not omnipresent, he's the madvillian.

Janszoon 12-30-2011 05:13 PM

Maybe it's "Mighty Flabby" Doom?

Freebase Dali 12-31-2011 09:48 AM

Weird, "mother f*cking" doom never even crossed my mind.

Janszoon 12-31-2011 10:36 AM

Milton Friedman Doom?

Goofle 12-31-2011 11:02 AM

Melon Fiddler Doom

Janszoon 12-31-2011 11:04 AM

Moldy Fruit Doom?

Freebase Dali 12-31-2011 11:05 AM

Mmmm. Fruit.

It's more cryptic than subtle. Read most of his lyrics and if you know anything about hip-hop then you'll know what he's saying. He just says it in ultra-creative ways most of the time. But here's an example of his unsubtle lyrics:

I'm jokin on the fact that hiphop has gone freak show
don't let the drama getcha
in the only genre of music where the fans shoot the messenger
bitch niggaz talk behind ya back like a catcher

You mean like he manipulates turntables and soundboards as if his fingers are indestructible? I guess that works. Also, Dr. Doom has metal fingers as well as a metal face. Either way, not unfounded at all.

I think you mean asocial but I hear ya. Mother****ing is way too obvious for Doom's title. Anyway, didn't he even drop the 'MF' from his name a while back?

It really doesn't make a difference to me, I just always assumed it was "Mother Fucking Doom" and finding out it wasn't was surprising. I figured this  meant my post wasn't to be taken super duper cereal.

I don't think me or engine are taking you too seriously man it's just fun to talk about.

Yeah, but stuff like having diss lyrics about viktor vaughn through the eyes of mf doom is kind off subtle if your not familiar with dooms persona's. Or maybe that is cryptic, i don't even know.

I remember reading in some early interview with doom they asked him what the mf was and he said one of his friends coined metal fingers because of his production talent or something.

Yeah i remember reading up on that too but his reasoning wasn't too coherent. He was saying a lot of weird stuff when born like this came out, like how he was voting for mccain and his nonsensical reasoning for having impostor performers.

Anyway the name is just more pleasing to say with the mf so i don't think he's gonna lose it ever.

The Dr. Doom he takes his name after sure as hell is menacing.

But are his fingers metal? His face sure as hell is, but that's way too obvious to be his name.

Yeah I think it was due to Marvel comics threatening to sue him unless he dropped the MF.

Seriously? I heard some noise about Marvel bringing suit against him for his use of the Dr. Doom image but did they really settle over the 'MF' in his name?
If this is true then I'm totally boycotting the Avengers movie.

Perhaps I have got it wrong then, you may well be correct.

probably not a bad decision anyway, the trailer was very unappealing.

The trumpets & "If any contestant splash hes disqualified, even if one drip should slide down the bottle side" lyric always excites me. :tramp:

DangerDoom (Danger Mouse & MF DOOM) - Vats Of Urine - YouTube

Thom Yorke 01-11-2012 02:58 AM

El Chupa Nibre was always my favourite off that album.

Psht - time waits for no man
On a blind date, a love with a slow chrome hand
Judged him by his shoes, hot smelly Brogan
Budged him with the news, called him pot-bellied Conan
... no prick barbarian
A strict bear-atarian, a sick pair of merry men
The beat is like a swift kick in the rear end
The stiff {BEEP} made her lose her lipstick and hairpin
He said "Damn! Act like you know me
Even with the mask on, show me what you owe me"
Tell her brush her grill and wash her face and {BEEP} homey
Dumile got her like Inuyasha got Kagome

I also wish this was on it as I really prefer this beat:

someonecompletelyrandom 01-11-2012 11:13 PM

I love the title of that song. It's a reference to Futurama.

Sparky 01-11-2012 11:42 PM

damn i never knew doom rapped about inuyahsa before.

DOOM :: Red Bull Music Academy

Quote:

Participant: »I’ve a really obvious question for you. When can we expect the next Madvillain album?«

DOOM: »Good question. It’s almost done, I can say that. But it’s been almost done for maybe like two years. I can’t say when it’s done, but I’ll be finished soon with my part by, say, January. But Madlib still has to put his little touches on it, but it’ll be soon. Soon.«
So DOOM might be done with his part by now. Getting closer...

JJ DOOM (Jneiro Jarel & DOOM) Album ‘KEY TO THE KUFFS’ Coming Soon – Lex Records

Metal-faced rapper DOOM has been working on a brand new album project with Jneiro Jarel as the combined force JJ DOOM. Click the YouTube link above to listen to ‘BANISHED‘ a taster from their forthcoming album ‘KEY TO THE KUFFS‘ coming soon. Artwork by Stephen Powers aka ESPO.
So I guess there is a full album, which is awesome. I didn't know if it was just going to be that Rhymin Slang track or not (I can only assume that track will be on this).

"villian strikes again, equivalent to hundred thousand milligram vicadine"

I like that track more than "Rhyming Slang." At least this collaboration has a tentative release in May, hopefully online earlier.
This song exemplifies the fact that Doom can rap over anything

Thom Yorke 02-15-2012 11:54 PM

He's got different flow on this one, but it's still a pretty cool track. Flow sort of sounds like the sped up part on No Snakes Alive (one of my favourite DOOM tracks).

duotone 02-18-2012 08:54 AM

We get it in like a Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

That definitely made me smile. That's a programme on television over here in the UK. Am surprised that he had heard of it & referenced it tbh.

I'm also pretty excited about this. But I have to say I don't think the rapid-fire rapping suits Doom's flow so much. I hope JJ has made him some mellower tracks for the album.

I hadn't listened to it at the time. It's okay.
