yeah to the donald, i didn't mean for those rappers to be regarded as the best, i just feel that they are the "greatest" mcs. and to theused2lguy, i love nas. i feel that he stands up there along with the greats as one of the greatest lyricists, and i love his tunes. not much gets better than illmatic. i love jay z lots, but i just listen to ether. nas talks about how jigga stole nas's style and nas just disses him in the great diss track of all time and jay does nothin about it. that doesn't prove that he's greater though, i just feel that nas is a greater lyricist and mc in general.

defining the best rapper includes so many notions and characteristics, like, the best beat, the best lyrics, the best meaning behind the lyrics, like whether or not their rapping to rap or rapping to say something to the general public. they could be rapping about their life story, or trying to define the feelings of the people who listen to them. it all depends on so much. it's so hard to choose. which is why all rappers are essentially the best rappers. except "k-fed". thats just a no. but, i wouldnt narrow my favorite down to just one artist. its unjust. everyone has their own characteristics that define them and make them fantastic and outstandning

Good one, I guess all rappers are saying something that will appeal or mean something to at least somebody. Even the gold 20 inch spinning rims probably have a lot of sentimental value to some type of people.
I much prefer rappers with social conscience.
I've never heard 50 cent or hardly any 'dirty south' rappers say anything that was very important, or in any way related to the struggle of african americans in this country. Unless it involved the "i" quotient. 'Po Po trying to grill me cuz i got a white ho, I say hell no, can't do that, cuz a brother got dough'. I like KRS One, and Grandmaster Flash because they actually talked about real stuff in their raps.
Back in the late 80's, the cognitive rap that came out of that time was sending the message to the young black youth-'you're in the ghetto, there's gangs, there's drugs, there's guns, it's rough as hell, but if you're gonna' find a way out of this, it's gonna' be with your brains.' There were so many mentally tough MC's.
Nowdays, the message the big time rapstars are sending to the young black youth is, pimp hoes, and roll doughs, and you be icin' and flexin'. Although, I couldn't imagine the reward would even be worth the time considering the route taken to get there.
The transformation must have started around the days of 2pac, who was one of the most socially consciouss rappers, but after he started getting attempts on his life, he became more and more paranoid, and started talking guns and hoes. Step in Jay-Z, who as talented as he is, realized he could sell more the more he talked about money and b.itches. Savvy businessman, but great inspirational role model he is not. Jigga made one platinum album right after the other, and then all these no talent losers start stepping in, with practically the same formula.
It's so sad how saturated the rap game has got. It's not worth listening to, not the stuff they play on the radio nowdays. Everyone please just stop rapping, then hand it back over to the mentally savvy that care about the young black youth, and to some extent open the eyes of the white people to the black's struggle, and make some people think, for a change of pace.
