Underground
So I've been getting into this stuff lately, guys like Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Alias (The Other Side of the Looking Glass), Eyedea, El-P, Sage Francis, Mos Def, Talib Kweli. Who are some other cats I should check out (I checked the Wikipedia thread on the genre, but I'd rather you guys recommend me some than download all of them and have to find the diamonds in the rough.)

Underground
I want to know what you guys think of the underground rap scene. Who's your favorite underground artist? Personally, I'm big into ICP and the rest of psychopathic records and Tech N9ne. I'd have to say Tech N9ne is my FAVORITE rapper of all time, living or dead, mainstream or underground. He's just very good at what he does and really works hard to give us good music.
|
you should check out dae wu
|
andre nickatina is a personal favorite of mine. my favorite jointz are 'sunny kim,' 'bonus' and 'da spitz.'
|

These are indie rappers not underground: Underground rappers dont make money and they are still shopping for record deals.
My fav indie rappers: 1. Sage Francis - Complete package: Great Mc. One of the Best. Suprised lots of ppl has not heard of this cat! Just a shame. 2. Aesop Rock - Sometimes I wonder if he means what he is saying 3. Slug - I admire slug cuz he is always true to himself and the music is great Lot others but dont feel like putting them down |
again...probably more indie than underground
1. sage francis...probably my favorite...just unbelievable content showcased in some of the most creative, intricate rhymes 2. eyedea (and abilities)...same comment..."first born" may be the hip hop equivalent of the best of Terrence McKenna's insights wrapped up into song-form 3. louis logic and others i'm still looking into or don't even know about yet |
