New rap sucks alligators penis

uh, yeah, new rap music, as in all the krunk, and club hopping hits they play on the radio now days is one of the worst trends in music history. I don't understand how people can like it just because it's fun to dance to. How does being able to 'get jiggy wit' it', when you're completely inebbriated to it qualify it as good music? I guess it's okay for people to enjoy it, but remember when you actually buy this crap, or listen to it frequently, you're encouraging more artists to make music that is completely degrading of women, and also sends the message to everyone that the single most important thing a person can do in life is make money and have money. I almost think that George W. Bush put a mandate out right after 9/11 for all kinds of studios and record executives to start churning out this drivel. "heh, we need something that's hip, and pro-capitalist, then we'll show the world how great we are, by how much money we can make and spend." The R wing politicians of the world will claim to dislike this brand for its immorality, but secretly they couldn't be happier about its insanely capitalist agenda.

Inuzuka Skysword 01-26-2008 02:55 PM

How does music that sells terrible not promote capitalism? If it is selling on a market then it is pro-capitalism. Anyways bad rap has been around for a while. Good rap isn't spreading anymore because of things like MTV and VH1.

Yes, I know. I'm talking about the lyrical content. Basically, all they rap about is money or material possessions they purchased such as ice, or gold plated rims or gold chains or gold teeth, gold and diamonds. You being from Florida, I'm sure you've been exposed to it in the worst way.

However, if people are going to like something horrible, I would much prefer them buy crunk over that saddle-bagging crap from the SW

cody222111 01-26-2008 03:21 PM

yeah dude all new rap is ****, but of coarse rappers are going to sell what people want to dance to at the club seeing most inter city kids dont have the money to buy new records and they just want to dance to it. Also, none of the new cds are fully good, so most new rappers make 1 single that sells everywhere and people buy on itunes

music industry is real lame

jackhammer 01-27-2008 12:03 PM

Once again. Ignore the mainstream and search for better music. It is out there. Don't let the multinationals dictate to you what to hear.

Mishramtg 01-29-2008 03:50 AM

I would have to agree with all of this.. But I think what you mean is the current mainstream is garbage. There are some decent new rappers, and definitely many oldies still making new material.

But i think the spirit of the whole genre is being lost.

We are living in an era where Lil' Wayne is "the best rapper ever!!"

Its kind of depressing. But i assume it will pass soon enough. I think it all started with that damn Thong Song lol.

Dmizz 01-29-2008 01:27 PM

just dont listen to the radio or watch mtv and you will be alright

[MERIT] 02-01-2008 07:05 PM

There's still some good artists out there. Not all new rap is like Lil Wayne and Birdman "makin it rain". Dont lose faith in the poetry of the streets. I'll make some recommendations of some rap albums to check out:

El-P - "I'll Sleep When You're Dead"
Lupe Fiasco - "The Cool"
Aesop Rock - "None Shall Pass"
Kanye West- "Graduation"
Jay-Z - "American Gangster"

antihero496 02-01-2008 08:39 PM

i keep it ol' school or underground. but we're going thru the rapper as tycoon phase, and it's getting old.

True that. Every rapper now has to be a CEO and have a "hundred million dolla". The music is what suffers.

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 02-01-2008 09:05 PM

I don't mean to get all melodramatic here, but you know what?
I go to the SE part of the US, and it's just sad, man. I mean race relations are alright, but they could be better, and I know a lot of the rappers can make a lot better living making this mush than a 9-5
I'll do a complete 180 and say more power to them.
People are too tense down there, I wouldn't want to work down there at all.
To anyone from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabam, Georgia, South Carolina, or Florida:
uh, hey, how's it going guys? sorry to 'dis your area so much, but have you been anywhere else, because it's a lot cooler than where you live.

pwns SE region, I mean, geez, I should chill out

[MERIT] 02-01-2008 09:08 PM

are you talking about the southern rap scene?

*I'll have some of whatever you're smokin' man*

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 02-01-2008 09:20 PM

yeah, I'm sayin' it's all these white, gut hangin' over their waist, cigarette smoking, hick drawlin' guys from the south that basically run things down here. I mean, god love them, but I wouldn't want to work there. I hope Soulja Boy, and all the others sell really well, and then give money to all of their families so they won't have to work in that tyranny. Then, I hope their music is continuosly listened to in some way, where I never hear it.
I know we don't like to stereotype here, but I'll do it anyway:

South = dumb
North = greedy
Everywhere = slow down

an oversimplication, but still quite accurate, I think

antihero496 02-01-2008 09:56 PM

Nas was right. hip hop is dead. even lil' wayne agreed with him.

ProggyMan 02-01-2008 10:17 PM

Nas is a moron who's only released 1 1/2 good albums. Get your head out of the dirt(Lol). You'll find a lot of amazing stuff.

antihero496 02-01-2008 10:25 PM

ya, he's overrated, but homeboy's kinda right.

ProggyMan 02-01-2008 10:27 PM

I guess the joke was lost on you...Sigh...Anyhow, I really don't understand what you just said. You mean Nas was right?

sleepy jack 02-01-2008 10:31 PM

What isn't to understand? And Nas released more than 1 and 1/2 good album. God's Son is solid and Stillmatic is at least half a good album.

ProggyMan 02-01-2008 10:44 PM

Psht, Nas's production was never up to standard. Anway, 'homeboy was right' is what's not to understand.

sleepy jack 02-01-2008 11:09 PM

Those albums are good and she very clearly met Nas was right about hip hop being dead.

ProggyMan 02-01-2008 11:14 PM

In your opinion. I got confused by 'homeboy', wan't sure if she was talking about Nas or Used2lguy.

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 02-02-2008 07:01 PM

I genuinely don't see how anyone could say Nas is overrated.
And I have heard several people say that on this forum.
First, of all Nas and Jay-Z are equally talented, and are probably generally regarded as the 2 best mainstream rappers of today.
Now, think about how they are rated, before you call them overrated.
Generally, Jay-Z is regarded as a better rapper than Nas, and obviously more popular. He has way more songs played on pop radio. The only Nas song I've ever heard on pop radio was, 'I Know I Can'
While I think Jay-Z is a good MC, I think if you call anyone overrated, it would have to be him, especially since Nas talks a lot about political, and social things, topics that are lacking from more of the bland rap of today.

ProggyMan 02-02-2008 09:18 PM

Jay-Z is more popular with fans, Nas is wayyy more popular with the underground scene, this site, and music critics(Not so much there). Anyway, I don't think Nas is overrated as a lyricist or an MC, but he's never had the production that Biggie, Jay-Z, etc have had.

[MERIT] 02-02-2008 09:20 PM

It seems to me that in Nas' lyrics he is just telling people what they want to hear, he acts like he is rebelling against the mainstream while in all reality he is playing them and trying to just sell records. He could care less about making good music IMHO.

pheurton 02-03-2008 03:39 AM

nas > you

antihero496 02-03-2008 11:48 AM

"hate me now" pwned.
gotta love Nas back in the illmatic days, tho.

abstractsolo4agirl 02-06-2008 09:20 PM

rap sucks.period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ProggyMan 02-06-2008 09:22 PM

Why even bother with the rap forum then...To quote Bob Dylan 'don't criticize what you can't understand'.

well
i just can't stand it once again.
there is not point to it .
blah.

Lizzie 02-06-2008 09:31 PM

^Well then don't come onto the this thread just to post something negative and pointless just because you don't like it. It's not contributing anything and is a waste of time

ProggyMan 02-06-2008 09:32 PM

You sound like an 8 year-old girl. 'There's no point to it. blah'. What have you actually listened to? I'm not trying to be mean, it's just annoying how you come into the forum to shoot down an entire genre that you know nothing about.

Molecules 02-08-2008 08:07 AM

it's all just homogenized Timbaland beats now. He was cool for the first few years but he's ruined hip hop, wanker. Oh yeah and nobody in hip hop says anything anymore, unless you like white-student-backpacker-bedroom hip hop, which I don't. There's been the odd good release but **** it, I don't care anymore. Rot in hell hip hop!

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 02-11-2008 05:33 PM

I don't know if it's all crap.
but like somebody else said, it's not all terrible, it's just that most of the good stuff isn't making it's way to the mainstream.
What I don't understand is why can't KRS-One, Rakim, or Outkast put out a decent album in the last 5 years. It seems like all garbage to me, even from the more respected hip-hop artists. What is going on?
I need to get satellite radio, so I can hear some better crap than what they play on AM/FM, and find some good artists.

ProggyMan 02-11-2008 08:26 PM

There are better ways of finding good music than XM radio...

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 02-11-2008 09:10 PM

Not all of us have the internet.
I've listened to Satellite Radio, and I know that it is much broader in selection than AM/FM.

ProggyMan 02-11-2008 09:33 PM

I generally assume that people on an online music forum have the internet.

I have the net but I'm currently on a 5 GB cap. I generally avoid watching youtube videos because of it. :(

ProggyMan 02-11-2008 09:42 PM

Ha. Still, he implied he didn't have internet.

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 02-11-2008 09:48 PM

I revise the statement to some of us don't hav e internet with the capacity to listen t music or watch videos.
If you know what Idleaire truck computers are, it's just lucky that I'm able to converse on this forum, they suck so much.
I mean, geez I'm pretty lucky, I should chill out.

ProggyMan 02-11-2008 09:53 PM

I meant using the internet to find bands, not listen to them.
