Public Enemy

I was suprised that there wasn't a thread dedicated solely to this great group. Bungalow got me into these guys and I like them a whole lot.

Favorite Songs:

Rebel Without A Pause
Don't Believe the Hype
Can't Trust It

Now discuss.

YEAH BOOOOOOOIIIEE

sleepy jack 01-22-2006 08:06 PM

I do quite enjoy the enemies of the public.

jazzfromhell 01-23-2006 05:27 PM

My favorite rap group, except for maybe A Tribe Called Quest (I just recently started listening to rap, still don't listen to it really often). Fight the Power and Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos are my favorites.

Hype8 01-23-2006 05:32 PM

I love It Takes A Nation Of Millions, it's a masterpiece. I love "Give It Up" as well, its a lil different from traditional PE.

babakeatwix 01-23-2006 06:27 PM

If you like them a lot moses listen to their song Public Enemy No. 1

Shooting Star 01-23-2006 07:16 PM

Public Enemy deserve all the recognition they get. The fact that they actually have something to say and articulate it really wells adds so much credibility to them and their genre for me.

True and not to be mean to any other rapper but most of them have a very harsh sound to them, but PE just has that flow and feel to it that makes you feel good. Also, I like how (I don't nit pick about this much) they don't drop the f bomb ever other word.

pimpmymusic 01-24-2006 09:47 AM

the whole album: ''it takes a nation of millions to hold us back'' is a classic one!
One of a few albums where every song is good!

KineticBeats 01-24-2006 02:17 PM

alwayz liked them.......

cas 01-26-2006 10:49 AM

PE can't touch BDP.

Not by a country mile.

swim 09-18-2006 06:21 PM

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back is classic. They're awesome, no doubt.

Ashlee Simpson Phanatik 04-15-2007 06:52 AM

PE have been goin' strong since day one.
Flava Flav dosn't really do much but the group is dope Ol' Skool nevertheless.
I like a few of their songs myself.

Laces Out Dan! 04-16-2007 12:00 AM

Flav is the hype man..and he does his job.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know why some people criticize him so much. He fits perfectly in Public Enemy. What would PE be without Flav?

Yeah I totally agree with that. The beauty of Public Enemy is that you have a character like Flavor Flav in the same band as someone as serious as Chuck D, It's almost a kind of Ying/Yang thing.
I think the dynamic between those two is what makes Public Enemy so special.

All their albums are really deep. Definetaly get past their greatest hits. Start with Apocalypse 91.

ProggyMan 04-11-2008 06:20 PM

I listened to He Got Game again, and boy am I impressed.

Alfred 04-11-2008 06:53 PM

Punlic Enemy is a pretty good hip-hop group. I've been listening to them lately.

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 04-13-2008 12:01 AM

yeah, they're awesome,
Fight the Power is my all time favorite by them.
It surprises me that It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back is always considered one of the best albums ever.
Personally, I think Fear of a Black Planet has a little bit better songs.

ProggyMan 04-13-2008 12:05 AM

I prefer Fear Of A Black Planet over everything else.

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 04-26-2008 04:38 PM

Heh, actually I was trying to find the album with 'Can't Truss It,' because that song shreds me out of my seat, and found out it was on Apocalypse '91. I haven't been able to find this album, or any of their more recent albums, like the one with Son of a Bush. I thought they had disappeared, but recently found out they have been making an album every few years, and they still kick *ss. Does anyone else find it unusual that their releases are flying way below the radar recently?

ProggyMan 04-26-2008 07:01 PM

Even It Takes A Nation had mediocre chart success, so not really. Their albums are easy to find online though.

Piss Me Off 04-27-2008 05:56 AM

I shall be seeing them live next month, doing the whole of It Takes a Nation. Should be good!

ProggyMan 04-27-2008 09:49 AM

I think Pheurton is also going. I am more jealous than you can imagine.

Piss Me Off 05-23-2008 01:11 PM

What a gig, 2 hour set! Effing loud, i was stood by the speakers, but got to touch Flav when he climbed an amp.
The songs were great, my highlight maybe being Rebel Without a Pause. Could have done without the 5 minute speech at the end from Flav though :s

jocanaro 05-23-2008 04:38 PM

Yeah I caught them at Rock the Bells and they were jumpin all over the stage, acting like they were still in their twenties. And though the last album was so-so, they sounded hella tight! All their jams, old and new rocked live.

GravitySlips 05-29-2008 03:09 PM

I saw them two nights ago, was absolutely stunning. Such energy and a great atmosphere, and Public Enemy were top class. Some guys near me lit up about 20 joints over the course of the show, they were generous enough to pass it round a lil' as well ;)

Amazing gig, I left absolutely DRENCHED in sweat, and then went clubbing afterwards in the best mood i've been in for ages. Was a great night, I'll need to get some more Public Enemy albums!

sl1ck 06-01-2008 07:49 PM

God, I want to see P.E. live so bad. Chuck D. is my hero, seriously. By far my favorite rap group of all time.
