I think as time passes on and even evidenced by "Lolipop", he will conform to the mainstream demand rather than reaching his full potential.

He likes the music he makes, he doesn't really have too much potential.

I didn't say he doesn't like the music he makes...but he could do so much better. I think he is conforming his music to mainstream interest to gain the most profit. His unique style and use of diction gives him a tremendous amount of potential. He is the last guy you want to freestyle against, and he can remix over anything. That is why he is still gets a tremendous amount of respect from the underground.

Can somebody point me toward a rapper more stylistically versatile than Weezy? I really think he's the best in terms of syncopation and overblown personality, and where would rap be without those two things?

"You can spark it up and I'ma put you ooooout."

2headed*MC 05-31-2008 12:50 PM

Attention The Whole Carter 3 Album Is Leaked At Thisis50!!!!

Busta Rhymes, Andre 3000, Missy Elliott are a couple to come of the top of my head.

Strummer521 05-31-2008 03:15 PM

That's a good answer, I think. I'll have to look into those three and see whether or not I agree with it.

ProggyMan 06-01-2008 09:40 PM

Here are some rappers with over the top senses of humor. I'm not sure this is what you meant:
The Beastie Boys
Public Enemy
Aesop Rock
Wu-Tang Clan
Dr. Octagon
Deltron 3030

That wasn't what I meant, really, but still...thanks. I'll look into those some time.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-02-2008 04:57 PM

He can't be that overrated because i've never f*ckin heard of him

simplephysics 06-02-2008 04:59 PM

I'm almost jealous, if I didn't actually like Da Drought 3.

You'd understand if you lived in the U.S.A. He is certainly overrated, but his music is still good.

Kevorkian Logic 06-03-2008 08:56 AM

I don't really care if he's overrated or not, but I get terribly bored of that song after the first like minute or so of listening to it.

blondiexboopx 06-03-2008 09:35 AM

Lil Wayne has made some good stuff but recently I see him EVERYWHERE. Every song he is either "/ft" or in the remix. He is a good artists, just needs to know when too much is too much maybe?

c64 06-03-2008 09:51 AM

he'll be in movies, i've read

Laughing Boy 06-03-2008 11:48 AM

There's too many negative threads in the rap forum.

aunixx 06-06-2008 11:53 AM

ya.. overrated.. anyone else getting kinda sick of these meaningless popish rap songs?

TheBig3 06-06-2008 04:48 PM

he plays a mean electric guitar, I've heard.

sleepy jack 06-09-2008 11:54 PM

Lil Wayne

We need an actual Lil Wayne thread especially since Tha Carter III is the shit. I would put more effort into this but I'm alone in liking him.

Recommendations:
I Feel Like Dying
I'm Me
Something You Forgot

Rainard Jalen 06-10-2008 12:38 AM

Is it better than Da Drought III? I can't decide on whether to check it out, especially since I'm still stuck on P's HNIC pt.2.

Dr_Rez 06-10-2008 08:55 AM

He has such lazy delivery.

sleepy jack 06-10-2008 01:25 PM

I don't give a shit about delivery, I'm not ProggyMan.

Well I do give a shi about delivery, and I think lazy delivery sounds cool. Especially when it's slightly off the beat, like how Prodigy raps these days. Fookin' awesome.

And to Ethan: answer my question gal dangit!

sleepy jack 06-10-2008 02:02 PM

Hell yeah, high five rainard. Lil Wayne's flow parts the sea I'd like to see Aesop Rock do that.

what?

you have to care a little bit

I mean, would you enjoy somebody rapping using a voice box like stephen hawking?

sleepy jack 06-10-2008 03:06 PM

I actually think that would be interesting to listen to. It would be like Fitter Happier gone hip hop.

Sparky 06-10-2008 03:09 PM

you understand what i'm saying though. Delivery is an important part, its a lot of the reason lil wayne is as successful as he is anyway.

Plus, stephen hawking already made a rap album. It wasn't great, though "**** the creationists" was a catchy enough tune.

Wayne's probably got it covered on Tha Carter IV, or Da Drought IV, or whatever comes next!

I do understand what you're saying but I'm just tired of everyone in hear going LOL DELIVERY FLOW BEATS about every single artist. I'm past caring, if I like it I don't give a fuck about the technical aspect of it. This isn't a Dream Theater thread, this is Lil Wayne the man who gave us Lollipop.

Sparky 06-10-2008 03:15 PM

well, delivery, flow and beats generally make up hip hop. It's like critiquing a rock band without mentioning how they played the instruments.

Plus delivery isn't very technical, at least from my standpoint, though proggyman may argue otherwise. I don't think of it technically, i just think wether or not how this guy is rapping is cool or original.

Its part of the reason im still listning to method man even after ive matured past his lyrical content ("nigga's like glue, whatever you say rubs off me onto you").

also, not to **** all over your lil wayne thread, but i had to post this before i forgot.

I must admit for the amount of weed Lil' Wayne smokes his lyrics and rhyme scheme never seen to falter.Tha Carter II and Dedication Vol 2 are his strongest in my opinion.

That's genius but anyway I understand there's a technical aspect and it makes up the aspects of the genre but I'm getting tired of discussing it and having the same argument in every single thread. I don't listen to Lil Wayne when I want technically perfect hip hop I listen to him when I want something that's entertaining and amusing.

I don't think he's lazy, he definitely is passive but his unorthodox style usually means he comes off that way. Admittedly I'm no fan of his but he can definitely ride a beat well.

CheckIts 06-11-2008 03:58 PM

What do you think are some of Lil Wayne's best songs? (famous or not)... I just downloaded 2.5 gigs of his stuff and its gonna take me a while to find the best songs lol

Dr_Rez 06-11-2008 04:03 PM

Well it certainty isn't what iv been hearing on the radio...

I agree, I hate the songs that get choosen for his singles. Fireman was all well and good for Tha Carter II, but Lollipop is complete **** in my opinion, nowhere near his best.

drfe_552 06-11-2008 10:27 PM

I personally don't get why people like his music..I think his lyrics are pretty disgusting.
Most disgusting rapper has to go to either him or Trina

sleepy jack 06-11-2008 10:35 PM

What's wrong with his lyrics?

Delivery is half of what makes him entertaining and amusing.

I agree, his music is ALOT cleanier than most of the rappers from the "dirrrty south." I mean, I'd rather listen to Wayne rapping about toking it up than Webbie rapping about how fat some girl's ass is.
