Lil Wayne's new album

Who else is stoked that Tha Carter III is coming out in a month? YouTube - Lil Wayne - Lollipop: BET Long Version, Closed Captioned

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-07-2008 11:37 AM

Is there any special reason I should know for all your posts being about albums coming out on Universal records?

Hmm?

Yeah this song did nothing for me, I kind of like the chorus, its kind of catchy but the whole CD I say it sounds like he was about to die. His voice is irritating

2headed*MC 05-07-2008 06:12 PM

He is good but way overrated

ohxmissxace 05-07-2008 08:19 PM

like a lollipop.

mhmmmm

2headed*MC 05-09-2008 05:38 PM

Lil Wayne overrated?

Is Lil Wayne overrated? I think he is good but way too overrated.

Dr_Rez 05-09-2008 09:03 PM

I love the people that are constantly coming on here, raving/asking about a extremely popular artist, then get banned 2 days later.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-09-2008 09:05 PM

They're not people , they're cretin spammers from UMG

boo boo 05-09-2008 10:25 PM

Or it could just be Doug Morris, desperately needing money.

Rainard Jalen 05-10-2008 01:36 AM

It's kinda silly, for anybody on a forum like this is bound to know, if they're interested at all in mainstream rap music, that Lil Wayne had a new album coming. Or else, discover the fact in not too long to come...

2headed*MC 05-10-2008 11:20 AM

what are you talking about? do u really think i am a spam or some sh**

sleepy jack 05-10-2008 02:23 PM

Of course Lil Wayne is overrated. Any halfway decent artist thats mainstream tends be to be overrated. Hes way better than 50 Cent or any of that crap I'll give him that (by a very very very long shot) even if I don't personally enjoy him.

edgeyoukated 05-10-2008 03:50 PM

i don't think he's overrated.
i like him. (: and "lollipop"
no homo, ahha, cracker.

clinton 05-10-2008 04:03 PM

I like LIL Wayne, hes on dope.

Molecules 05-10-2008 05:12 PM

he's the ultimate manifestation of the way mainstream hip-hop (sonically and 'lyrically') has been going for years - sludgy, vapid, and above all boring.

I just gave up on people when 50 Cent got big, so this dreadlocked dwarf doesn't really keep me awake at nights. A big yes from moi, then. Plus you have to ask yourself who are the people that are rating this guy?
The kind of people that generate big business for city-centre mega clubs with 'evocative' names like Lava, Ignite and Liquid that keep our great nation borderline-alcoholic and bland. I.e. nobody who matters.

ProggyMan 05-10-2008 05:45 PM

The annoying thing about 'Lil Wayne is that some people regard him as legitimate.

Dmizz 05-10-2008 08:05 PM

He is the embodiment of overrated i hate his devoted fan group that insist that he is the best rapper ever  yeah right!! his new song isn't even rap

zilla510 05-10-2008 08:29 PM

Lil Wayne's freestyles are good. I don't like that both Snoop Dogg (Sensual Seduction) and Lil Wayne (Lollipop) have singles out using that T-Pain style.

boo boo 05-11-2008 12:11 AM

Rolling Stone crowned him the best new MC.

Oh what a sad state hip hop is currently in.

Yes, a disgraceful one. Even the underground isn't producing much really worth mentioning, not for a while. Best album I heard last year was Prodigy's.

Prodigy, Cannibal Ox, Aesop Rock, Dead Prez, Public Enemy, Jedi Mind Tricks...

sleepy jack 05-11-2008 11:10 PM

Lil Wayne is all swagger, style and flash and his rhymes are highly entertaining. He isn't that bad and he's actually good compared to most mainstream rappers today in fact I'd say he's one of the best as far as mainstream goes.

ProggyMan 05-11-2008 11:13 PM

True, but Lollipop is really, really horrible. I like his mixtapes, but not enough to listen to them often.

sleepy jack 05-11-2008 11:18 PM

I wasn't saying his music is particularly credible or anything just that I'd much rather listen to him than G-Unit because at least Lil Wayne is entertaining and aware of it and utilizes that to make mainstream rap that is actually okay (when most is just detestable crap.)

Yah, I'm talking real great records here. I'd go as far as saying that some of the releases may tolerably be described as being "good". But not much of any genuine super-quality brilliance is coming out at all either in the mainstream or underground, and it's been a long time since those days indeed. Anybody who wants to claim otherwise is only deceiving themselves.

ProggyMan 05-12-2008 12:39 AM

If we're talking the last 8 years, I consider all these classic albums. Not 5-star material, but very, very good. Hip Hop's not as good as the 'golden era', but it's certainly not dead.
Labor Days
Float
How To Sell A Soul
None Shall Pass
The Cold Vein
God Loves Ugly
The Undisputed Truth
Lets Get Free

I agree that it's not dead. But I also don't think it's any more alive and well than the dated genres commonly performed in the indie scene and so forth - except in the sense of still being a mainstream pop format.

Iain Douglas 05-12-2008 09:34 AM

The song itself is crap. Pop/Rap ****. Thought Wayne was a hardman gangster. But this is like some Britney Spears ****. Sucking a lollipop and singing like he lost his balls in a card game. He ain't ganagster rap so he shouldn't pretend he is. If he'd admit he's pop/rap then it wouldn't be so bad.

BlckDeth 05-12-2008 02:59 PM

I give 'Lil Wayne some credit because of his work ethic, but the vast majority of what he does is pretty terrible, IMO. He does have a handful of songs where he seems to be stumbling upon something decent, but the ratio of bad songs:good songs is embarassingly high.

Meh. GLU wasn't terrible, but there are better Atmosphere albums. His two most recent albums, not to mention the 4 EPs that dropped in 07 were superior, IMO.

ProggyMan 05-12-2008 08:39 PM

What? Atmosphere has gotten progressively cheesier after their masterpiece God Loves Ugly. I've hardly listened to Lemons.

Sparky 05-13-2008 03:02 PM

atmosphere has always been cheesy

it got worse after all that "**** you lucy!!" bs

ProggyMan 05-13-2008 09:25 PM

Cheesier*.

NoseClams 05-14-2008 01:57 PM

absolutely. XXL gave him their 'artist of the year' and blender gave him 'biggest rock star' of '07. this guy is getting way too much publicity just because he has been in every song made in the past year and a half. he is a good rapper but he is truly over-rated.
good poll!

UnbornSuperstar 05-15-2008 03:40 PM

I do not see the big deal with him at all

simplephysics 05-16-2008 07:41 AM

hmmm..

Demonoid 05-16-2008 11:56 AM

Most underrated artist ever in the history of mankind!

On a side-note, just out of curiosity, i googled the topic title.
The number of results with the exact thread name is just amusing.

Nugget 05-18-2008 02:09 PM

Defo overated hes pretty crap like.

Ballin by Nature 05-29-2008 03:38 PM

I wouldn't classify him as overrated. I think Lil Wayne has the potential to become one of the greatest rappers of all time, however I think he is motivated to get as much money as he can rather than become the greatest rapper ever. I think as time passes on and even evidenced by "Lolipop", he will conform to the mainstream demand rather than reaching his full potential.

Rainard Jalen 05-29-2008 04:11 PM

yeah but is lil wayne really generally overrated? he's definitely overrated by arse sites like pitchfork, but is he rated so by the wider critics community? and also, do fans really like him all that much? i mean, what's he got popularity-wise on kanye or jay?
