Yeah but you have a Souljah Boi fan arguing Asher Roth sucks on your side. Sorry if I can't take you guys seriously.
|
Im proud of you Ethan, for not being ashamed of your music.
Do you also listen to Panic at the disco? |

I was referring to matious. I have a hard time taking him trashing Lil Wayne, Asher Roth or any other rappers I listen to purely because some of their songs are fun seriously because he ran around and arguing that Souljah Boi had some sort of artistic merit.

Annyywayyyy, trashing Wayne but liking Soulja Boi is weird to me, but we all know how I feel on that topic. On this topic though, I only know Roth by I Love College, so my knowledge of how good he is is limited. |

. I'll be the first to admit my dislike of Asher Roth stems just as much about his personality and character as his music. I just think he's annoying, and makes boring music about cliche frat-boy stunts and falling alseep in a bread aisle. |
the only reason Ethan likes Asher Roth is because he thinks he's rebelling against all the scene kids that hate him. i guess he never even bothered listening to Roth's music, because (to me, anyways) it's some of the worst emcee skills combined with shitty lyrics that pander to inebriated college kids. the cunt writes the majority of his songs about how much he loves weed, beer and pussy. sounds like something Ethan would like.

Asher Roth in my mind is the "Worst" white rapper ever. Soudns to much like Eminem. Everyone knows my outlook on Eminem. This is the sort of song that would appeal to middle school preps. It's terrible.

I really haven't been paying attention to this thread and just realized this is the 'I love college' guy. He's alright in my book.
|
I don't understand how everyone is bitching that he only raps about weed and frat boy cliches and then they turn around and call him an Eminem rip off. Granted I've still only heard I Love College but I kind of doubt the rest of his album is filled with a gimmick alternate ego who talks about raping/killing woman or whines about his status as a celebrity. It seems to me that the Eminem comparison is either lazy or racially driven.
|
It's his voice.
He sounds like Eminem. Not his subject matter. |
I don't really hear it; his flow sounds way more chill and his voice is way less whiny.
|
I hear it, and that's what bothers me about him.
That, and in some of the songs I have listened to, he has a sloppy/broken flow. |
Ive only heard I Love College...and I dont care to listen to his other stuff. But I Love College is a killer tune to just party to. Get pisstanked, and fuck a couple broads. Whats not to like..quit treating him like he's trying to be some hip hop genious.
|
He did a song with Chester French which makes him ok in my book.

people are trying to take this guy way too seriously.....just take him at face value....he bull**** party, drinking smoking weed lyrics is like the first half of his album excluding "be by myself".....
I really think his album picks up momentum near the end....the first track that shows that he has the potential to get better in the future is "As I Em" and "Lion's Roar" that has Busta Rhymes on the track. I believe by Asher's third album people may have a different view about him. I personally think he should have put the track "Bad Day near the beginning and moved "Be By Myself" near the end. Bad day is pretty funny to me because some of the things he talks about has happened to me in the past. He talks about his dad in "His Dream" and then ends the album on a note where he lets you know about his past a little more on the track "Fallin" I get the voice comparison to Em but his flow is waaaay too slow and chill to be like Em's. Also sometimes he doesn't even know what type of flow he wants and it jumps all over the place like unintentionally. It's a bit rough to get used to but if you can get past that....he has some quality tracks. |
