Madvilliany is oftentimes my favorite rap album ever. It's one of the few hip hop albums i can listen all the way through.

I don't have 5, but I would definitely reccommend you check out K-OS's new album. It's not really essential to the rap game or anything, but it's such a good CD no one should pass it up.

Good list, if you abide by this you're not going to go far wrong. Encompassing the range of hip hop from the early 1990's through to the modern via the more instrumental/beats of Dilla. In an attempt to match that I'll go with:

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Reflection Eternal - Train of Though
GZA/Genius - Liquid Swords
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
The Pharcyde - Labcabincalifornia

That should bring together lots of important elements from the futuristic concept album with some interesting lyrics and great production from Dan the Automator, my personal favourite album Train of Thought, intelligent lyrics with a great flow over the top of some great soulful beats provided by Hi-Tek. Liquid Swords goes without saying, need some Wu-Tang in there, and like Illmatic (would have probably picked it if someone else hadn't) it's a great debut album, albeit with a few tracks of filler in the second half in my opinion. The Pharcyde is a great layed back album with production by Dilla, as Donuts has already been mentioned. Some obvious choices but I guess that's what people starting out would want from recommendations.

This thread has already covered my suggestions for the most part. I can't stress though how much you should get the Deltron 3030 album. One of my favorites in the Hip-Hop genre.

Anyone who lists A Piece of Strange as an album to give to newbies is alright in my books. Seriously you'd have to start running over orphan's kittens while chain dragging their deceases parents corpses before I start marking you down.
