Alright, guys and gals.
I'm a serious noob at hip hop. I can't stand any of the commercial stuff, and what has gotten me to like it is Gorillaz. I need some suggestions for intelligent hip hop. I would seriously prefer live instrumentation added, may be even with instruments not commonly heard in the genre. The extent of the hip hop groups I like are Gorillaz, Flobots, POD, and... That's pretty much it, really. :-/ |
Well, seems like you are basically just getting your foot wet with hip-hop. The groups you listed are very borderline hip-hop acts. Based on Flobots you might like Gym Class Heroes? Check out The Roots for live instrumentation- and really you can pick any album they are virtually all good. N.E.R.D. "In Search Of..." and P.O.S. are random albums that came to mind a little (although, they are stretches- especially P.O.S. which may be a little too much of an alternative hip-hop act for you to jump in on). Good luck.

Hello all! I've only recently gotten into Hip-Hop, so I'm quite new. I've checked through the section quite a bit, and so far I'm loving most anything from Nujabes and Uyama Hiroto, Das Racist, what I've heard from Ghostpoet, and Death is Silent from Kno. Of course, these are all completely unrelated so I'm not sure what I like. BUT I do know what I'm looking for. And that is some dark material. Give me some please!

I would suggest you check out the soundtrack to "The Wackness"
There are some amazing tracks on there with artist such as: Nas, Biggie, Wu-Tang Clan and Craig Mack While you're at it you may as well rent the movie as well. ;) |
