Janszoon 07-26-2010 09:29 PM

Why do they have to be white?

Charlemagne 07-26-2010 09:31 PM

Because I want it to be more specific then just rappers in general and I've been into white rappers lately. Nothing against black rappers, it's just I can find a lot that I like a lot easier.

Kirby 07-27-2010 03:34 AM

That sounds borderline racist. Haha.

Charlemagne 07-27-2010 08:08 AM

I know, I just wanted to make it more specific :(

Fine, I'll take any rap recommendations.

Kirby 07-27-2010 11:30 AM

I'd have to say P.O.S.
One of my favorites.

Charlemagne 07-27-2010 11:31 AM

P.O.S. is actually my favorite rapper. Great suggestion though.

The Bullet 07-27-2010 01:26 PM

White rappers? Um... do you know Spose? No, REAL Spose when he's being serious, not the "I'm Awesome" guy you probably know.

Aesop Rock
Astronautalis
Atmosphere (Slug)

Cecil Otter
Dessa
Edan
Eyedea
Grieves
Jedi Mind Tricks (Vinnie Paz)
Mac Lethal
Macklemore
Themselves (Doseone)

Sage Francis (His first album in particular)

Brother Ali is actually a white albino, so I guess he counts here

Charlemagne 07-28-2010 06:03 PM

I just got Sage Francis' first album and it sounds really good. Thanks for the rec!

Samm 07-28-2010 08:54 PM

No problem, also try Cubbiebear. You can also try b dolan but im personaly not a fan of his

My Mind Sedate 07-29-2010 05:42 PM

I have been really digging this. The video is amazing, love the 8-bit sounds and the tempo shifts. If anyone has this album please let me know - I cannot for the life of me find it anywhere!

JackidyJack 08-16-2010 07:11 PM

Can anyone please explain

Hey guys I recently got into hiphop/rap and ya i've heard a few things about west vs east coast and just wanted to know more about the history of rap. Yes I did read the sticky ,but I'd really like to know more and what kind of music you guys (Smart) would recommend i already have the Gza liquidsword album (loving it) and the Enter the 36 Chambers but not much else besides MMlp

dark shadow 08-16-2010 08:40 PM

Check Aesop Rock, KRS-One, and if you want some more modern tracks I'm diggin' Atmosphere, Lupe, and Tech N9ne lately.

As for as the whole East vs. West, as far as I know, it was more a 90's thing and the beefs between rappers aren't as serious any longer, at least not as far as geographically.

JackidyJack 08-16-2010 10:17 PM

Ah, Ic oh and sry forgot metion I already have a few aesop rock albums Ex-Labor Day. but im curious wat is KRS-One

SouthpawSwagga 08-16-2010 10:37 PM

KRS-ONE is a Hip-Hop pioneer and part of Boogie Down Productions, their album Criminal Minded is a classic.

If you like Wu-Tang, check out Only Built for Cuban Links by Raekwon the Chef.

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Part 2

Look up "The Grouch". Any rapper on rhymesayers, particularly Brother Ali or Atmosphere. Needless to say Wu-Tang Clan are nothing to **** with.

y5nthon5a 08-31-2010 11:05 PM

So, there's several songs that are actually good.

"Ballad of the Black Gold" by Reflection Eternal.
"She Was" by Bei Maejor.
"Shutterbugg" by Big Boi.
"Life's A Bitch" by Wale ft Talib Kweli & Joell Ortiz.
"Higher" by J Cole.
"The Ode To New York" by The Illz (he's sick).
"Put It Down" by Bun B ft Drake.
"The Freestyle" by Wale. (Most underrated rapper ATM)
"We Run NY" by French Montana ft Fat Joe.
"I'm Gone" by Fat Joe (premo beat... I know, most dont like Joe but this song is great).

Everyone, tell me what you think of each.

Sheep-Sqweak 09-03-2010 01:58 PM

Sparky 09-03-2010 03:42 PM

Sheep-Sqweak 09-06-2010 11:39 AM

Above the law - Untouchable

Rhymesayers 09-12-2010 07:02 PM

good suggestions... but here are some great artist who have lyrics that are sweet and not typical rap, more stories. atmosphere, brother ali, mac leathal, p.o.s., evidence, zachariah, blueprint, if your a lyric guy... sage francis. and if your like the typical hip hop stuff without the cars and money... kid cudi is always a good bet

Rhymesayers 09-12-2010 07:04 PM

Some Bassy Songs for my Car.

Hey, i just got a Sub installed in my car and have around 45 songs that are my favorite and have a lot of bass, but after about a week its getting a bit old, So post your favorite songs that sound good if you have a sub, No biggie(already have all his albums), Thanks

pourmeanother 09-23-2010 06:41 PM

Well 2010 has fallen flat for me so far. I've gotten really out of touch with music recently, and haven't found anything new that really strikes my fancy. The Roots album turned out to be sort of a dud. Didn't really fall in love with B.o.B. Never got around to listening to new Reflection Eternal.

I'm looking for your favorite album, or maybe some tracks, from 2010. Period.

I'm also hoping this John Legend & The Roots collaboration album is good.

abdullah424 09-24-2010 01:44 AM

I really can't think of my favorite album of the year but J. Cole - A Nigga From the Ville and The Cool Kids - Tacklebox were two really good mixtapes

Don't know if you've ever listened to XV, but he released his new Mixtape. I've always been a fan of XV.

XV - Vizzy Zone (Deluxe Edition) - Listen and Download

Edit: Also, almost forgot that the new Atmosphere is pretty nice, as well.

Hank The Drifter 09-30-2010 10:18 AM

Deltron 3030's new album is finally suppose to drop this year, then again it's been suppose to since like 06' lol, hopefully it lives up to what I'm expecting when it finally gets released. I know it will. Del's got such amazing flow. Anyway, keep your eye out for that one.

Also, if you've never heard the first one check it out, Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030. Its not the normal lyrical content you'd expect for rap. Its actually a concept type album set in the future year, 3030.

chacha 10-03-2010 12:14 PM

DevonWilliams 10-03-2010 04:12 PM

Preach. His verse on 'Murder' > life.

Swany 10-05-2010 05:39 PM

When your in the clubbin' mood, or a party mood, listen to I like the way she do it by 50 Cent w/ G Unit. That sh*t's Legit

Kirby 10-05-2010 11:41 PM

Also, if you've never listened to Boots Riley/The Coup, shame on you.

Queen Boo 10-06-2010 03:09 PM

Not really clear on who I'm recommending this to but this is great.

You can consider it a recommendation to me. After reading/hearing your post I DLd both of their mixtapes and I literally have not stopped listening to them since.

The interesting part is that after a couple songs I had written them off as sort of a novelty rap act that I expected to turn off soon and probably never listen to again. But by then I was enraptured - couldn't/can't stop listening. Thanks!
