I've been thinking about producing some more hip-hop, but this time with slow, grungy IDM beats and Dubstep style basses and atmos and with Aesop-Rock type lyrics... just something odd I've been tossing around for the past few days. I'm not sure if there's something like that out there already, but if any of you know any artists already putting that kind of thing out, I'd like to put some ear on that.

Benga has the type of beats you are after but Kode 9 may be more suited. It may not be perfect as the vocals are very lazy, almost drawl like. However the beats might give you some pointers.
Benga: Kode 9: You could also try the artists The Bug and Milanese. |
Thanks! Yea the Benga track is sort of what I'm thinking in terms of the atmosphere, but the beats themselves would be a bit more hardcore. Around the same BPM, but twisted up, a little distorted, compressed and punchy.
Probably more like what I usually produce for beats, but suited for flowing to. Ultimately I'm thinking of a mix of styles.. IDM/Dubstep/Electronica/Grunge/HipHop and even a little Indie thrown in there. All crammed into each song differently over the course of an album. I want to write a full album, as all I've ever done is single releases of various genres since 2004 and it sucks not to have something coherent as a single entity after all that time. I really want to have an idea worked out before I go into it, so that's what the recommendation is for really. I'll check out the other two artists as well. If you or anyone else has anything to add that might give me some inspiration or ideas to take note of, let 'em rip. Thanks! :D |
Going for an aesop rock type flow might be kinda tricky. But then again I don't know your music that well. You could spit hot fire.

thanks for all of the responses. Anything a little more Eminem - ish (more gritty, a little more diverse beat) than ATCQ and the rest?
