The only albums I've bought this year are Atmosphere and Blue Scholars, and that's just depressing.
Hail Mary Mallon's "Are You Gonna Eat That" is great.

Also, if you don't know, HMM is Aesop Rock + Rob Sonic + DJ Big Wiz.

You should have gotten Gutter Rainbows back in Jan.

Section 80 is a pretty solid album.

You should also check out Oneirology from CunninLynguists.

Greatest Story Never Told finally dropped this year too.

Shabazz Palaces-Black Up (this one is IMPORTANT)
Danny Brown-XXX (some songs are trash and some are brilliant)
Curren$y x Alchemist-Covert Coup
DJ Quik- The Book of David
Mr. Mutha****in' eXquire-Lost in Translation

These are the really tight ones so far. Hail Mary Mallon is good too, but I don't think it has very much lasting value. Also, download all of these for free.

I think Garfield and Breakdance Beach are very subpar BUT I like the album...

Table Talk is THE song of the record. Smock is dope. Meter Feeder is catchy. Kneivel is also very entertaining.

But Table Talk is one of my most played songs of the last 3 months already. And if as a whole the record doesn't have lasting power, I still know anytime Aes Rock goes pass the peas I'm in for a rockin verse...

Saw HMM mentioned and Table Talk is the song that jumped into my head. Unbelievable song and definitely the best on the album. Ace on the second verse is up there for one of my favourite verses. I also really like Knievel.

I've been hearing a lot about French hip-hop, and I must say I'm intrigued. Any suggestions where to start/maybe some artists they are comparable to as well...?

I like MC Solaar. Give him a wee look in.

Someone asked what was new on the scene earlier in the thread...

iconAclass is the new project of Will Brooks (aka MC dalek, of Dalek). Pretty awesome stuff, still has his great, pointed political lyrics. But the music is a little more traditional for hip-hop. Still awesome stuff.
