First rap CD?

My first rap CD was Wu-Tang Clan's 36 Champers. This is possibly one of the top rap CDs of all time. I remember listening to it all day and all night and it never getting old. I still listen to it. My favorite tracks are C.R.E.A.M., Method Man, Da Mystery of Chess Boxin' and Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta F' Wit. In fact, I'm going to listen to it now. :D

Luckily neither do I. Except there's two songs on the two albums I mentioned that have rap in. Those albums are class. Has anyone heard of them or the artists?

Don't feed the troll. Mine was Eminem's Encore. Although if we want to be technical the genre is Hip-Hop, rapping is just a vocal delivery style.

Phantom Limb 08-18-2011 03:24 AM

I think mine was Beats, Rhymes and Life, but it might have been Black Star.

Surell 08-18-2011 09:58 PM

DangerDOOM - The Mouse and the Mask

It practically defines my middle school existence.

Actually the first CD I ever owned. I still think Will is an under rated rapper when he wasn't doing the corny stuff in the Fresh Prince era. It wasn't til college when I really started listening to rap though and I was introduced to stuff like Nas, Wu, Kool G Rap, etc

pourmeanother 08-21-2011 09:21 PM

Nice, was reading through some of the quality albums people started with and was blown away.... Until I saw Dirty's post, and finally found one I could relate to.

My first album was Will Smith's Willenium. As a white kid in a middle class neighborhood surrounded by lower class minorities in middle school, that was the best I could come up with at the time, and legitimately thought that owning it would give me tons of insight into the world of rap.

Second album bought was Dr. Dre 2001, and so on and so forth... so it really was a matter of exponential growth over time rather than hitting the ground running full speed.

Kirby 08-21-2011 09:48 PM

Linkin Park's Reanimation.

Hear me out.

For a starter album, it's ****ing fantastic. All you have to do is look at the lineup.

KutMasta Kurt, Motion Man, The Alchemist, Chali 2Na, Zion-I (Zumbi and Amp Live), Sean C, Roc Raida, Black Thought, Evidence, Pharoahe Monch, DJ Babu, Aceyalone, Cheapshot, Jubacca, Rasco, Planet Asia

Amazing.

RoStradamus 08-22-2011 07:26 PM

Illmatic, first and best album I have ever bought.

Howard the Duck 08-22-2011 09:48 PM

BastardofYoung 08-25-2011 12:23 AM

My first CD was Snoop Doggy Dog "Doggystyle"

my first rap album though was a cassette of Public Enemy "It Takes a Nation of Millions...." that a kid in my class gave to me when I was 13.

hoof123 08-30-2011 02:04 AM

Dilated Peoples - Expansion Team, was the first hip-hop album I bought. Before that I was given Jedi Mind Tricks - Visions of Ghandi & Gangstarrs Moment of Truth by a buddy.

Howard the Duck 08-30-2011 02:05 AM

YorkeDaddy 09-07-2011 11:01 AM

Recovery.

<_<

I liked it a lot at first.

Now that I know what good rap is, I don't like it quite as much.

duotone 09-25-2011 12:29 PM

Solid Gold Hits by the Beastie Boys. A nice compilation that my mom bought me because I liked the song 'Brass Monkey'. It wasn't until MUCH later that I started to get into any rap beyond that album.
