If psytrance is the only type of instrumental music you're willing to listen to, you're really missing out on a lot of great music. Two of the largest and most significant styles of music of the past few hundred years, jazz and classical, are largely instrumental. Seems a shame to miss out on all of that. Not to mention the fact that you're also missing out on large chunks of everything from surf music to flamenco, post-rock to Chinese classical, tango to ambient music, IDM to third stream, etc., etc.

If you hadn't already discovered, RJD2 was the sole producer on Magnificent City, the Aceyalone album I recommended. I think there's an instrumental version as well.

I did discover that, and it made me all the more excited to listen to it.

Instrumental Hip Hop is good but a CD full of 4-5 minute loops gets tedious. Can't listen to something like Petestrumentals all the way through but Donuts is brilliant as they are snippets.

Favourite rap album is a tough one; it's gotta have the right balance of energy, lyricism and production. Quite honestly, the album that seems to fit that best for me is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West.

That album does have a beautiful mix of those 3 qualities you listed, great album with a lot of dynamics.
