Aesop Rock isn't exactly the easiest artist to get into. It took me a few listens to click.

why would you torture yourself listening to an artist you don't like to force yourself into liking them?

Of course I didn't force myself, I just gave it a chance occasionally until it grew on me. A lot of music takes multiple listens.
