It's very true that sometimes it takes time for the artist's aesthetic to click to the audience; approaching things from unexpected perspectives is a healthy exercise, and can arouse all sorts of new ideas.

I definitely agree with this, if you approach thing with an open mind, sometimes a change of perspective is all thats needed. If you approach with a closed mind, it won't matter if you approach it differently because you already have a preconceived notion that you won't accept the idea.

Back to Aesop Rock, I didn't use to like him at all either. One of my friends was an avid listner, and he slowly grew on me. I'm still not a massive advocate, but there are allot of his songs that I do like/love. Infact, I really like all of Labour Days.

And as for Aesop Rock, I hear what you're saying about listening to an artist more than once to appreciate them, there are artists I didn't really like at first but now love, but with Aesop Rock, I really don't have the motivation to attempt to listen to him anymore.
