So I went and listened to Government Plates for the first time, and I have to say as a whole album I think I liked it the most. I swear it feels like all the albums before it feel like time has halved its progress, like I'll go and look and I'm only three tracks in, and it's annoying, but this album didn't have that problem. However, the other albums still have some good moments, like every Death Grips release I've heard so far has.

Yeah "Big House" is great, I really love "Whatever I Want" too tho, and "Birds" is actually pretty cool (reminds me of the second track from Shabazz's Black Up tho), and "This is Violence Now" is another standout. But I've mainly been using them as reading music (they work surprisingly well, maybe because I'm taking classes about race and class disparity) so maybe this one serves a better ambient function. It seems to lean a little more towards electro instead of Hip Hop or rock, lots of keyboards and a little less MC Ride, at least in my limited experience with it. I actually like the bit less MC Ride, I like their vibe more than his lyrics in a lot of cases. He's still good, though, his style's nice and "Guillotine," a Ride focused track, has been on repeat for me recently.
I blame the "Post 'Death Grips Post-Breakup Support Group' Support Group" and their god damned flux of Death Grips memes. |
I've noticed recently that you could literally drop "Guillotine" between practically any two songs and it will fit. It's wrinkling my brain

I guess we're getting a new album later this year as well as a movie or something.

Aren't all of the MC Ride twitter accounts fake, though?
