Death Grips
My friend recommended this to me... have never heard of this guy but I feel like I'm being verbally assaulted by a homeless man... and I like it
|
lol no idea what that was, but it was cool.
Where is he from? I usually don't like minimalist beats too much, but his voice just commands so much attention, pretty raw. |
I downloaded this a week or so ago after someone posted it here (Antonio I think). Great stuff! :)

f*ck the office..i can't see any video links/posts in this site
|
yeah, the
and this is supposedly a project done by three people, but the only person who's identity isn't a mystery is Zach Hill of Wavves fame Letters From A Tapehead: Zach Hill: Death Grips and Wavves... Death Grips | zach hill (SH Label Page) |
|
^ Yep, the album is going to kick ass.

If you wanna: Money Store
|
It's so f*cking good so far. Seriously awesome.
|
This is amazing. No filler, every track is sick. Memorable beats on every song. Different direction from Exmilitary, and it's way less intense, but I'm really digging it.
|
Yep, that's the impression I got in terms of the "no filler" aspect. Every tune is banging.
However, I don't think Exmilitary is that intense overall. A lot of the songs are quite soft compared to this release. I prefer the walls off sound over random bursts of noise anyway, and I think that's a much more abrasive way to do things. Very good release, properly a Death Grips devotee now, as I had been questioning how good they really were after listening to Exmilitary a few times recently. |
I think some tracks on Exmilitary at least hit you a lot harder (Takyon immediately comes to mind). It was just a lot more in your face IMO. But this release just straight up sounds great. Not sure how I'd compare the two as I'll have to listen to Money Store more, but I wouldn't be surprised if MS ends up being my favourite.
|
It was instantly my favourite to be honest. A few tracks on.Exmilitary just aren't good enough.
Looking forward to the other project this year. |
I like this song a lot.
im a start calling this stuff math rap |
The only "rap" that I listen to nowadays. Seen them live before, MC Ride is a ****ing animal.
|
Just listened to Ex-Military this morning, GOD I wish I would have listened to this earlier. So his debut is already out?
|
That is the debut.

The Money Store recently came out, but I would consider Exmilitary their debut.
Not sure Death Grips are interested in "mixtapes" to be honest. |
Good point, not your typical swag-rapper dropping a mixtape every two days.
How does Money Store stack up against Ex-military? |
It's a lot better in my opinion. I love Exmilitary but some of the tracks are not up to scratch. The Money Store hits home on every track.
|
Just gave The Money Store a spin. It is amazing, love it, will be listening to it for a while I can tell. I can't believe i've been sleeping on them, i've been meaning to check them out, but i wish I had earlier. Great Stuff.
|
Been waiting to hear the Money Store for some time now, but due to my lack of headphones, haven't done so.
I came across an old 80's JVC pair that were my dads and have started listening in. First track, and I'm blown away. It's as if MF Doom, Massive Attack, Gorrillaz and El-P all collided into one sound. ****ing mental. |
Heard it all now, it's insanity defined. No idea how something so all over the place and disjointed could be so wonderful.
The harsh, almost grime-like vocals go hand in hand with the erratic and bass heavy beats. Another great thing about The Money Store is that no two tracks are alike. Defo in my top 5 of the year thus far. |
Oh hell yes, recently started listening to these guys, I'm usually not that much of a big hiphop fan, I'm a lot mroe picky when it comes to hiphop than in other genres, but these guys are awesome. Exmilitary is pretty awesome but The Money Store is the sh*t, it's insanely awesome. Their lyrics aren't nearly as superficial as most "rappers" make them. I'm eagerly awaiting their next album, coming somewhere this year.

My opinion on the Death Grips
This album svcks. this album made me angry at the world. this album just sounds like a complete mess. the fact that this album is getting so many positive reviews makes me want to scream "WHAT THE fuuuuuudge IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???" i even sometimes feel like people will cosign anything as long as it's not mainstream. i couldn't even make it through the entire album. i downloaded it illegally and burned it to a CD just so i could throw it in the trash.
here's a list of albums i think are leagues ahead of Death Grips: 1. Nicki Minaj "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" 2. Waka Flocka "Flockaveli" 3. Justin Bieber "M World 2.0" 4. Lil Wayne "Rebirth" 5. Flo Rida "Only One Rida" 6. Every Pitbull album 7. every Lady Gaga album 8. any collection of songs that includes "Fly Like A G6" 9. The New Boyz 10. Gucci Gucci Louie Louie Fendi Fendi Prada |

How is it a complete mess? Because it's experimental?
|
It's a complete mess because either a) he's a troll just saying **** to bug people or b) he's ignorant about what experimental is.

I agreed whole heartedly until this. As, you must be aware such a collection would not constitute being an 'album' :nono: |
I think I'm alone in my opinion that The Money Store is just not as good as their first album. It starts off really strong, but by the end I've lost interest and move on. The first album did this with me as well, but not quite as much. If they just combined the first half of both albums into one it would be perfect.
Anyone else agree? |
I know I'm a little late, but I've just downloaded their 'Exmilitary'-album. Listened to it a couple of times, and I think it's good, though it seems like I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. It's really angry and loud, not something you play when you go to sleep (depends on what kind of dreams you want to have).
But I like it. It's unlike anything I've heard before. The track I like the best so far is 'Spread Eagle Across the Block'. |
I've just recently been getting into hip hop but I've never heard anything quite like these guys. I downloaded the money Store and was pretty impressed upon first listen. Definitely worthy of a few more gos. Do you guys know if these guys have any plans for a third album yet?
