Wugazi (Wu-Tang Clan x Fugazi)

Enjoy.

Surell 07-13-2011 11:40 PM

Oh that lovely doomtree. <3

i'll be checkinng this out

Kirby 07-14-2011 12:12 AM

This is 100% solid.
Amazing.

pourmeanother 07-14-2011 12:35 PM

Yup, it's good.

BastardofYoung 07-14-2011 12:36 PM

I checked it out yesterday. Such a cool album.

[MERIT] 07-14-2011 01:21 PM

Thanks for the download man. I'm really looking forward to checking this one out.

Edit: This album made my day :)

DoctorSoft 07-14-2011 04:55 PM

I'm gonna love this one boys, I got a gut feeling.

Engine 07-15-2011 12:48 AM

I've listened to about half of it and my reaction is the same as to similar mash up thingys. They're interesting for one or two listens just for the novelty but I always end up wanting to listen to the original music more.

This happened for me with the Grey Album and the Slack Album. I will say that this Wugazi sounds more skillfully executed than Dangermouse or DJ N-Wee did theirs.

Either way, I'll listen to Wugazi more but I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if it becomes something I listen to regularly.

Howard the Duck 07-15-2011 12:50 AM

okies i'll give it a whirl

Yeah this was my concern and the reason i haven't downloaded it yet. These mash ups never seem like genuine music, more of a neat trick. It's definitively cool for a while but the flavor wears off quick.

Fugazi is a great choice though, so I'm probably gonna download it right now actually.

Engine 07-15-2011 01:13 AM

I think one thing that Wugazi has in its favor is that it doesn't just use a single album by either artist (and none of them are JZs effin Black Album) so it's more .. diverse?

I dunno. I'm gonna give it a chance and try to listen to it as a totally new creation -- in those other two I always ended up waiting for my favorite riffs and verses and choruses to pop up.

Sparky 07-15-2011 01:17 AM

anything from the furniture ep on it?

I'm hoping they use that, that **** rocked hard

Engine 07-15-2011 01:23 AM

No bits of those have stuck out to me so far, but they seem to have taken little pieces from everything. As much as I love the song I was happy that the Waiting Room bass line wasn't front and center (at least not in the early parts of Wugazi). These guys obviously worked pretty hard on this.

BastardofYoung 07-15-2011 02:12 AM

Wugazi's '13 Chambers': A Track-by-Track Breakdown | Rolling Stone Music

is a good track by track on it.

Howard the Duck 07-15-2011 02:21 AM

finally downloaded it

pretty ok, I guess - this is my first "mash-up" album, BTW

the backing tracks are more interesting than the original Wu Tang's, I suppose

Alec 07-15-2011 08:30 AM

I don't think of it as a mash-up album, it isn't just one album from Wu an one album from Fugazi mashed together, they use samples from a variety of different songs and albums and it fits together wonderfully.

It is. A "mashup" doesn't have to be one-to-one. Girl Talk makes mashups.

Anyway, I'm on my 3rd listen of Wugazi and liking it more and more. :)

Girl Talk practically defines "novelty mash up". It's cool for maybe the first minute in and then it just gets ****ing obnoxious

I agree. This will stay in rotation for a long time.

Blarobbarg 07-15-2011 09:22 PM

Just downloaded. Will be using it as my fighting music for Team Fortress 2. Hope to be impressed, what with all the hype I'm seeing about it.

Sparky 07-17-2011 07:32 PM

I just can't get into this. Maybe it's because I'm not crazy over rock samples in rap, especially guitar. The verses synch up well, and it works great technically,it just never feels good to listen to.

On a positive note im way into fugazi again, and have been waking up to "hello morning" every day.

Dirty 07-23-2011 02:56 AM

Heard half the songs so far and I think it's sweet. gonna DL it all tomorrow

S.R.E.A.M.

Sneer 07-23-2011 05:03 AM

Really good, my friend introduced it to me and I've had the thing on steady rotation for a couple of weeks now.

Charlemagne 07-25-2011 12:34 AM

I've got to give this a try now, I've heard so much about it the past 2 weeks and have been avoiding it...finding out it was put together by Cecil Otter, who happens to be my favorite Doomtree member, finally got me around to getting it.

Howard the Duck 07-25-2011 12:50 AM

loving it so far

Engine 07-28-2011 01:07 AM

Still listening. At this moment even.
Best mashup I know of.

Dirty 07-28-2011 03:52 PM

Alright, listened to it a few times by now... I keep going back because I think it's cool as hell and sounds great.

Another favorite:

This album is one of the best things I've listened to

Yeah, man. I can't stop listening to this thing. It's clear now that it's mostly Wu songs with just a little bit of Fugazi to compliment them. It works so nicely though.

I'm super-happy to hear ODB in this context. I always Like it Raw and Fugazi adds both rawness & emotion. I didn't expect that.

Howard the Duck 07-29-2011 05:02 AM

great stuff, really

never fails to amaze me everytime I put it on

SCRUP44 08-01-2011 07:56 PM

Liquidswords was the best **** eva made

Kirby 08-02-2011 11:35 PM

This is probably my favorite track on the album.

Goofle 03-24-2012 06:00 PM

Listened to this album TOO much in 2011. Revisiting it again now and it's amazing.

Jester 03-24-2012 06:06 PM

another gimmicky mash-up/10

Goofle 03-24-2012 06:11 PM

You sir, are wrong, sir.

So then, what do you consider a non-gimmicky mashup?
I've been listening to Wugazi regularly for many moons and I even went and saw it performed live. I love it.

Deviouz 03-25-2012 02:45 AM

Nice, I like indie hip-hop mix tracks!

BTW, anyone heard Wu-Tang Vs. The Beatles? And Wu-Tang X Muse? Genius!

Goofle 03-25-2012 06:52 AM

I liked a few tracks off the Beatles one, but the Jimi Hendrix one topped all of them except this.

Howard the Duck 03-25-2012 07:05 AM

i got this over a year ago

i need to revisit it sometime in the future

just not now, cos i'm over-saturated with music at the mo' and need some silence/ambient sounds

Girl Talk's done some cool stuff

all the projects like this are just gimmicks though. Wu-Tang vs The Beatles, Wugazi (seriously? come on...), even The Grey Album was kinda cheesy

Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers is my favorite Wu-tang mash up. I haven't checked out Wugazi though so I should probably give it a spin.
