Lil Wayne vs Big L

Both artists are known for rapping puns non-stop. Who do you think is better at it?

BIG L

VS

LIL WAYNE

Personally, I think Big L lines are stronger and more coherent and sensible, but Wayne's flow is more diverse and fun to listen to. Wayne also benefits from modern production.

Who do you guys think is cooler?

[MERIT] 07-14-2011 08:43 PM

It's close to impossible to vote against Big L. I think he does it smoother and more consistently, not relying on bullsh*t filler just to make stuff rhyme like Wayne sometimes does. My vote goes to Big L (RIP).

Kirby 07-14-2011 10:10 PM

There's not many that I would vote over Big L.

Lil Wayne is definitely not an exception.

someonecompletelyrandom 07-14-2011 10:37 PM

It's funny, I actually think Wayne's production is one of his drawbacks. Not voting because I don't know enough about Big L.

Yeah, you mean like the pop sound of it?

I'm also referring to the effects they put on his voice and all the background comments they splice in, the "yeahs!" and "weezy!" samples and all those little elements which give the illusion he's rapping good.

someonecompletelyrandom 07-14-2011 11:19 PM

Check out his unplugged performance. If he'd cut a record like that I'd be swayed.

Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous

Do it. Now.

bonesaw-orchestra 07-15-2011 02:17 AM

Definitely Big L. Hands down. I try to get into Lil Wayne but it just doesn't happen.

djchameleon 07-15-2011 06:21 AM

This is a no brainer.....Big L

Antonio 07-15-2011 07:24 AM

I like Lil Wayne more as a rapper for the reasons you said, matious.

Unrelenting 07-15-2011 08:31 AM

It's funny that you choose one Lil Wayne's worst tracks imo

Ben Butler 07-15-2011 08:37 AM

Lil Wayne

anticipation 07-15-2011 09:53 AM

this isn't a discussion as much as it is an indicator as to how high your IQ is;

intelligence is to big l as
stupidity is to lil wayne.

Dirty 07-15-2011 10:11 AM

Big L is nasty with his punchlines, I gotta go with him.

Not by a lot though. I actually really like Wayne sometimes. He's so hit or miss with me. I think what seperates the two is that Big L's punchlines flow better. Wayne has a bigger catalog though (since Big L was killed and Wayne used to jump on every single track). If Big L hadn't passed, I think he'd be way ahead of weezy. Wayne is still probably the best right now with consistently putting out creative metaphors, even though i hate when he does name stuff (swag down pat, call my shit Patricia, etc(

I actually like that song. He's all over that beat no joke. His voice sounds raw and like he's occasionally actually running out of breath. They'res plenty of really, really, ****ty lil wayne songs, i don't think that comes anywhere close.

Surell 07-21-2011 05:05 PM

Lil Wayne's best song for everyything period IMO is

And I won't vote, this discussion just looked intriguing/funny because Of Course only 3 people on the entire forum would vote Lil Wayne.

Trauma 07-26-2011 05:00 PM

This is a joke.

You don't even need to hear anything else. Case closed. I'm not saying I don't like some of Lil Wayne's songs, but this is like comparing Trey Songz to Luther Vandross or R Kelly.

Kirby 07-26-2011 05:42 PM

I'm with Trauma, this is literally a no-brainer, in my book.

I'm totally cool with this comparison

Bam:

Has Trey Songz done a song with The Isley Brothers? Hell no.
Moreover, the one characteristic that puts R Kelly in a different category than Trey Songz IMO is the fact that he's been making music for two decades and he's still popular.
If it weren't for these two factors I would agree with you.
P.S. A comparison like Trey Songz/R Kelly is completely up for debate. But a comparison between Lil Wayne/Big L, I'm not so sure.

Sparky 07-27-2011 12:55 PM

Big L actually has to write his rhymes down /yawn

man lil wayne just gets in the studio and spits flame bruh thats why hes the best

Trauma 07-27-2011 01:11 PM

Cuz he spit hot fire?
Man then I'll tell ya da top 5 best rappers ever: Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan and Dylan.

At least Big L writes his own ****.
Lil Wayne not writing down his lyrics is what makes him bad, in my book. People call it swag, I don't.

And lately, it sounds like he has been writing down his lyrics. Either that, or he got himself another ghost writer.

Unrelenting 07-28-2011 07:22 PM

Wayne admitted to writing some of his new **** while he was in jail

Jester 07-29-2011 08:21 AM

That's probably why he's sounded better after he got out.

Better than the Dedication 2 or Drought 3? Hardly!

What's come out beside 6' 7' though?

Sparky 08-01-2011 05:44 PM

Yeah, personally I feel like he's lost a little in his step since giving up the lean.

You can't really compare and contrast his lyrics too much, because it's all under an umbrella of "bull shit" but I feel like his lines were wittier and funnier during no ceilings, carter 3 time period.

So far the carter 4 sounds way too rick-ross-ish, but i hope there will be some gems on that bitch

SCRUP44 08-01-2011 07:55 PM

Oh yeah, i forgot about that. But still, he hasn't put much out since. I guess he had that one song about writing a letter, it wasn't that great, but i personally haven't heard much Carter IV material.

Ludacris is at least a good rapper. Not all of his stuff is on point but his skill is still up there.

If you think hip hop is dead then all you listen to is the radio. Turn off Hot 97.

Wasn't he honored at the Hip Hop Hall of Fame thing that VH1 does?
