Give a listen to Marvin Gaye's What's Going On. It's probably the greatest R&B record of all time, among the overall greatest albums of all time and one of the most political albums ever released.

Also, the pop sensibility of R&B in the 50's helped people like Elvis cross the genre over into white audiences, and forge Rock n Roll. I can't remember who said it, but it was along the lines of: "R&B and Rock and Roll are the same music. The difference is R&B was black music and Rock and Roll was white music".

It's safe to say R&R had a big influence on hip-hop/rap, and R&B made it possible. So many of the 'genres' we have today are so interconnected, I imagine things would be completely different if one of them were to disappear.

Wiz Khalifa is pretty trash in my opinion. He's like a retarded version of Curren$y. Some of his early stuff was just slightly interesting, nothing more.

Sure, modern hip hop borrows heavily on soul and R&B samples. I think hip hop would still be able to exist without it though. The origins of hip hop is just having the dj spin a record and having an MC rhyme over it. There are plenty other genres to sample and scratch up to get the acquired sound.


As far as Wiz goes, I listen to him but I know he's nothing spectacular. I just enjoy a few songs from him.

R &B, Hip-Hop, rap... the difference is minimal. They have all helped each other evolve and survive in the modern, contemporary music industry. Wiz Khalifa is a great artist.

Listen to stuff thats deeper than what you hear on the charts before you make a statement like that, otherwise you look like an uneducated fool.

Here's two examples, one is an r'n'b song, one is a rap song. They both have the same instrumental, so it should be easier for you to decipher the difference

As for Wiz Khalif ai like a few of his mixtapes, but his recent stuff and his albums have been pretty dire in comparison.

No I really doubt it, most of the melodies and arrangements behind the the original pioneering rap songs were sampled from R&B music. It is what made rap back then so intoxicating. Now you can't hear any R&B without HipHop plastered all over it. How ironic. R&B created Hip hop and Hiphop eventually killed it.
