This is the first worthwhile album Kanye has ever made. The gospel angle comes off as sincere, interesting, and very soulful. Reminds me of Sean-Nós Nua by Sinéad O'Connor in that it’s a talented artist finally cutting the crap and doing something worthwhile.

Really? Because it comes off as a self indulgent attempt to make himself feel grounded during his mania induced delusions of grandeur rather than facing the fact that he's bipolar and needs to be treated for it. Everything on it is about how he's a vessel for god and how he thinks the backlash he gets is comparable to when people turned on Jesus.

1) almost all hip hop is self indulgent
2) obviously he’s nuts; most artists are
3) religion has an historic tradition of inspiring great music

Yeah, but I prefer what he was doing before much more than this. Oh well, different tastes I guess.

He's both, the only difference now is that he went from thinking he's the Messiah ("Yeezus") to accept and serve the Messiah ("Jesus is king")

More like using the idea that he's a vessel of god in the most self serving way possible.
