In rock, they say you're either a guitarist or a songwriter, right?
Maybe in hip-hop, you either have the ability to write great hooks, or to rap awesomely. With the exception of a few epic prodogies, I mean.

Fine. In semi politically correct land, they say you either are amazingly talented at playing some insturment, or you are a songwriter, with the exception of a few prodogies who can do both.
In the real politically correct land, they tell everyone they are great at everything, and send them all home with trophies.

no, in hip hop its more like you either have the ability to produce kick ass beats or you have the skills to write awesome lyrics and deliver them with grace.

if you lean more towards the beats side, you are considered a producer rapper and people don't expect lyrical prowess from you IE. Kanye
