He's popular, therefore his lyrics aren't bad? Bandwagon fallacies are lame. The only thing that being popular proves is that you are popular.

Bull****. So every person that is highly praised is automatically a good artist?

Exactly people love his music but they will tell you his lyrics aren't that great. It is his production choices and the music itself that people love.

No. It's every artist that is continually praised that high for years is automatically a good artist. If Kanye sucked as much as implied he would have faded away. Even his lyrics. If his lyrics were that bad he would not be where he's at and where he's been for the last 10 years. Standing the test of time is something most artists can't do. Even the ones with the highest praise. Like DMX who was highly praised and didn't stand the test of time. Even Eminem who's consider one of the absolute best hasn't stood the test of time as well. Even Ice Cube hasn't stood the test of time as well.

Actually I think most people would say that his lyrics have gone down hill rather than say his lyrics aren't that great. Even then, I argue his lyrics are perfect for what he's trying to do. If his lyrics were truly garbage he wouldn't be as big as he is.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

This is not even remotely true.

I don't think that's true either, I think it's more the fact that lyrics aren't important for the casual music listener that made him famous.

This pretty much. Most people nowadays don't really care about lyrics. You don't need quality lyrics to be big.

Just have a catchy hook. Look at a majority of the trap **** that is big right now.

If you can dance to it and get lit. The lyrics don't matter at all.

I guess you're always entitled to think he sucks, but if you want an objective measurement on whats good then success is it along with other things.

And maybe you're mind is too closed away to realize that some people enjoy his lyrics and too pretentious to think that Kanye fans are more than casual music listeners.

I'm sure if they were mumbling about sucking dick and killing jews people wouldn't want to listen to it. So lyrics kind of do matter.

"Objective measurement of what's good."

When it comes to art, we will always disagree that this even exists.

What's there to like about his lyrics?

I like the confidence and braggadocio of his lyrics because I appreciate people that believe in themselves rather than hate them selves. I like a lot of the punch lines he puts in there as well. I also like how he can perfectly portray an emotion that contradicts what he's saying as he's saying it. I like a lot of the messages he tries to convey through his lyrics.
