Man, 2012 is gonna be a year to remember for hip hop.

ISWYD has grown on me so much to the point where it might be my favourite thing El-P has done. The production on that album is bloody fantastic. The beats are all so unique and hit so hard.

As for the Aesop reference, I kind of doubt that but who knows. Anyways, I'm sure Aes will be involved in this album in some capacity, which is one of the things I'm most looking forward to.

Aesop is producing all of it as well, which I'm excited about. I prefer his beats to Blockhead's.

And here's a Busdriver track Aesop is on that is on Busdriver's album Beaus$Eros this year.

Sparky 03-11-2012 03:19 PM

Just can't get into busdriver anymore. I used to be a big fan, but now his voice and delivery just annoy the crap outta me.

Do you guys remember when vast aire had beef with def jux? Don't ask how i came about this but it's pretty funny, and further validates my dislike for vast aire (besides him being wack)

Really bad diss track.

Heres the myspace portion for anyone interested in hip hop beef circa 2009

I have nothing to say to this. We'll just agree to disagree.

Fair enough. I would sincerely like to know why you rate the production of cannibal ox so high, if you (or anyone for that matter) can articulate it.

I do respect your opinions sneer, and would be interested in what you have to say if you feel like humoring me.

I should really give the album a listen again. The entire concept of the album just never was very appealing to me.

Phantom Limb 03-11-2012 08:47 PM

The production on The Cold Vein is really tight (not sure if it's his best, but it's up there) and it doesn't sound muddled to me at all. It is lofi-ish, but "muddled" is taking it way too far. If anything, it's the recording quality of the vocals that's a little muddy.

Is there any other of his works you'd recommend to perhaps change my perspective on this guy and share your excitement about the upcoming release?

the dude who said "try harder" is actually right. that album is MONSTROUS. who are some of your favorite artists? that might help you give you a direction for EL-P. but seriously, man, EL-P is like a god-tier hip hop artist. another key: he's a big grower. a BIG grower.

okay, so according to this thread there's finally a title for this upcoming Aesop Rock album? **** was talked about dropping in 2010, then was "gonna drop in 2011," but now it has a title huh? i was thinking it'd be around this year. i hope so... Aes is dope. but i'm honestly worried about him fully producing the album. i think every Aesop Rock release is dope tbh, but don't play yourself.. Blockhead's way doper on the production tip than Aes Rizzle. Labor Days? Float? those are his best albums because Blockhead comes correct on the boards. Felt 3 (fully produced by Aes)? boring...

Phantom Limb 03-12-2012 11:10 PM

Another song most likely off Cancer for Cure.

Aesop still produced on those albums, and had nearly as many tracks as Blockhead on Float.

My favourite Aesop album for production was the Appleseed LP, which Aesop produced himself.
