I would assume Aesop, as I meant to clarify that I only wanted their ability as a rapper to influence the decision, although it's fine if you wanna discuss their production credits.

I can add a poll if you want.

We had that discussion. It might have been slightly before you started coming here, but I remember having it. It DID get stale pretty quick.

But I don't see how this debate would be less stale. I think they're less comparable... Stream of consciousness multis vs a mean, fairly direct but unstoppable flow? It seems like preference to me, or I like one while I party and one when I chill (they're both capable of either to be honest...I've had Aesop keep parties going too).

Man fuck ya'll, DOOM's the best there is. Besides, Aesop is just a wannabe El-P.

A wannabe El-P? I don't see it.

Voted Aesop, because one of the main reasons I listen to hip hop is for the lyrics, and I prefer Aesop's.

I had some guy freak out when I said I think Aesop has better lyrics, content, word play and pacing. DOOM edges him in terms of flow and his voice is probably cooler.

So yeah, Aesop for me, and his beats are pretty great in my view.

definitely agree....aesop rock was the first hiphop artist i got into (it was labor days i fell in love with). but several years later, i find it harder and harder to listen to him. i just can't stand how he kind of forces words out and his flow kind of makes him sound pretentious.

and besides, "Doom is master of the world"

You don't hear any similarity in the way they spit? They sound pretty damn similar to me, Aes just spits slightly faster and a little more avante-garde. Both are super technical, have similar flow, and both incorporate weird scifi/fantasy references.

Aesop Rock has definitely fallen off lately, but he's been annoying to me since even before that, which is strange since Labor Days was one of my first hip hop albums. Maybe I'm not justified in calling him a "wannabe El-P", but I can't help myself from judging them against each other. I mean hey, El-p was doing his thing before aesop and and he also started the label that AR would eventually join.

Also El-P has a way doper voice.
