Rolling Stone Magazine announces "The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time"

What do you think of the following list? I'm not surprised to say it's a pretty poor selection.

The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time | Rolling Stone

Goofle 12-07-2012 07:31 PM

I could never go through that using the RS website. Anybody got a typed up list?

midnight rain 12-07-2012 07:31 PM

Post it. I want to discourage their list-making marketing tactic by not giving them a hit.

14232949 12-07-2012 07:33 PM

A top two of Rappers Delight and The Message. How inspired.

Yeah sorry I tried searching for one but couldn't any.

Rolling Stones: The 50 Best hip Hop Songs Of All Time by Carsten Jacobsen on Spotify

Press play then spotify should open up if you've installed it and that's the list in reverse order.

Key 12-07-2012 08:38 PM

Wow, big surprise. Not.

Janszoon 12-07-2012 08:42 PM

Rolling Stone releases extremely generic list of songs—shocking.

Franco Pepe Kalle 12-07-2012 09:51 PM

This list is interesting. I think some people would not agree with this list.

FrigginParadox 12-07-2012 10:01 PM

B.O.B number one? Push it number 5? ummm....

Psy-Fi 12-07-2012 10:57 PM

Does anyone still take Rolling Stone magazine seriously?

After all these years??

???

Rjinn 12-07-2012 11:51 PM

There's a bunch of songs I do like on that list. Other than that I don't give any credit to Rolling Stone for ever making a semi-decent greatest list, this no exception.

you're reading it backwards lol. B.O.B was 50. Push It was 45.
B.O.B should have been much higher, Push It should never have existed.

eminem_19 12-08-2012 09:26 AM

I think making a list with the best artists or albums is rational, But trying to collect the best 50 hip-hop songs is an impossible thing for me!

I wouldn't put "Push It" in the top 50 either, but I do still like it and am glad it exists.

yeah thats what im saying, i used it for a school video one time. its a fun track. but not top 50 worthy, there are other songs that should easily take it out

midnight rain 12-08-2012 11:48 AM

Did anyone else catch 'In da Club' at #20? I've actually been a pretty consistent proponent of that song being pretty decent since it gets **** on so often by others, but it belongs nowhere near a top 100 rap songs list, let alone 50.

I've never been a fan of B.O.B.. I'd take Ms. Jackson or Elevators over it any day.

Also, that list was way too 80's centric, but maybe that's just a reflection of my personal dislike for most 80's rap

FrigginParadox 12-08-2012 01:48 PM

yeah the list is pretty simple and predictable. its like a list someone put together if they only listened to the radio and not even any of the artist albums... im happy i saw flava in ya ear and scenario in it tho

Sparky 12-08-2012 03:02 PM

B.O.B should not be on this list. He is a studio tool.

He used to make bruno-mars style soft rock except with an acoustic guitar. You can't find the videos anymore because its all been deleted but i remember seeing it on tv. Changed himself into a rapper and bob is a retarded name

He's not on the list. We're talking about the Outkast song.

Sparky 12-08-2012 03:16 PM

ill hop off the soapbox then

Goofle 12-08-2012 03:46 PM

Is Aesop or EL-P on here?

It's Rolling Stone, what do you think?

14232949 12-08-2012 07:03 PM

I'm genuinely surprised MC Hammer didn't make the list. The Rolling Stone is a bunch of out-of-touch irrelevant 50 somethings writing articles about music they don't and will never understand.

I assumed not. Surely Madvillain/MF DOOM?

Again, Rolling Stone.

Goofle 12-08-2012 09:54 PM

Seriously? Surely they would at least attempt to scan through RYM to pick up on something reasonably unique? Fuckers.

I think you're overestimating Rolling Stone. This list is strictly a Jay-Z/Eminem/Public Enemy/Run DMC level of research.

FrigginParadox 12-08-2012 10:19 PM

yeah your waaaaaaaaaaay overestimating rolling stone. id be surprised if they knew who DOOM is :p

Norg 12-09-2012 12:36 AM

what does rolling stone got aganist MF DOOM ..?????? its like he does not exist to them have they ever rated his albums ..???

Surell 12-09-2012 01:37 AM

I've never really seen them take on Doom, i don't know if they had back in the day. They're not too in touch with anything outside of a pretty mainstream sphere -- they practically believe Animal Collective began at Merriwether.

Anyway, list wasn't too bad, but it was just a list made for someone who really never heard any hip hop in their life and needed to learn the basics. pretty much.

SGR 12-09-2012 07:23 AM

Did they include any Wu stuff other than CREAM?

thats a good way to put it, this is the stuff that i thought was great back when i started to listen to hiphop back when i was like 11

Rjinn 12-10-2012 01:15 AM

No matter if it was to be expected or not, I still cried baby's blood when I saw 99 Problems on that list. :(

Oh and... In Da Club...

:banghead:

What would be your choice of Jay-Z song?

Speaking of which, Rolling Stone does not have a review for Madvillainy.

I'm not sure since I'm not a big Jay-Z fan but I guess I'd say Dope Man. Beats out the heat.

Marcel 12-12-2012 05:28 PM

Like with most Rolling Stone all-time lists, I only agreed with half of it.
