Its nothing a good genocide wouldn't cure.

But in all honesty, the site has problems. Specifically that a strong collection of its uses are terribly closed-minded - and doubly-worse when these individuals believe themselves to be more intelligent, thoughtful, and eclectic.

You joke that I'm bringing the boards to a higher position via Mackelmore, because for a lot of people here that sounds absurd. How could someone so meatheaded do anything but bring the discourse lower?

But the only true about exploring things is that you've either been somewhere or you haven't. And where people don't go - whether its mountain tops or swamplands - is irrelevant. If you want to progress you need to search everything, and you need to get good at scavenging for the quality portions of what you're digging through.

If people want to stay in their preference-bubble, I have no problem with that, so long as they understand a few things:

1. If you're only listening to what you like, then you're limited

2. Just because you like something doesn't make it good

3. Nor does it make other things bad

4. Disliking something because your cultural mores suggest you shouldn't is a terrible way to go through life.

To clarify, if your friends would think less of you for exploring music you need to get better friends, or they need to listen to a broader range of music. I'm living beyond good and evil my friend, and I'd thank you to not force your Christian-trappings of us vs. them on the rest of the good people of Musicbanter.

I've understood all that from the beginning. Perhaps your plight is with someone else. And you might wanna heed some of your own advice because I feel as if you fall into the same trappings you're trying to avoid. I have plenty of discussion with people that enjoy the same style of music I also enjoy. I think the difference in us might be that I don't feel the need for my music to be accepted or appreciated.

I guess I don't grasp the analogy that its us against them either or vice versa, its just another board made for discussion of music, i'm not here to write a thesis or change the World. Best of luck with that.

You're fine to have discussions with people who enjoy the same music, but why would anyone feel its acceptable to go into a thread of an artist they acknowledge not enjoying, then deride that artist with internet slang and half-ass'd arguments? That's a general question, and not posed directly at Fred.

I see arguments about music two ways: Either you come into a thread or start one on a topic with genuine concerns (e.g. The teach Janszoon to love the Beatles thread), or people go into a thread to be a negative jackass with no arguments and just hollow opinions defined by social precedent. I think its pretty easy to see that none of the detractors have said anything on par with the aforementioned Beatles thread, but are probably more closely aligned with most of the derisive comments from the Rebecca Black thread.

Now admittedly, that artist (Black) offered very little and so it was difficult to speak positively. But we're dealing with a different caliber artist here, and people who come in picking up the weapons of the Troll are going to look like trolls. But thats not my problem, its theirs.

As for your thesis - I'm here to discuss music in such a fashion that people can yield something from it. And I am here to change perceptions. I fell into the townie-trap of making music an us vs. them game. Then later I thought I was too smart to listen to **** music - but you learn that its something that only holds you back. If I can prevent people from the same fate, or expedite their musical growth then I will.

On Musicbanter, our problem is not failure to have exposure to new music, but failure to see the value in almost all music. Its like having a 747 jet and only using it to take hour trips.

We were talking about the Pharell similarities a page back, and he's the architect of that great Clipse sound, so you're definitely right there. I actually think it's cool that they took that sound, it's not as exposed as it should be and is very unique. The only person properly noticing Pharell's swag was Tyler, the Creator, and really it's a little loose, leaning more towards the dark Pharell beats (though "Beamer" at the end of "Domo 23" definitely had this laid back aspect down fa sho).
