Iggy Azalea

I've just written a brief review of her EP Glory in my journal so check that out but I just want to see what people's thought is on Iggy? She's my new obsession! Her new album The New Classic is coming out this year which is exciting. It's nice to see a white female making it big on the scene. Here are a few of her tracks which touch on many genres:

misspoptart 03-01-2013 02:21 AM

While I like her unique flavor, she's a bit too extreme for me.

I don't really like her voice or her lyrics, and while there is some catchy repetition, no melody. Not for me, but still a fresh face and different sound.

PS. There are so many songs about pussy licking already out there, and I find PU$$Y particularly bad. It's really overwhelming and nasty (like all the rest). I wish someone would write a nice one.

Scarlett O'Hara 03-01-2013 02:44 AM

I love nasty songs. I find her Pussy song really sexy, I like her use of language -

(I said) left right back to the middle
head on swivel neck till i quivel
open ya mouth...
taste the rainbow taste my skittles ah!

misspoptart 03-01-2013 02:48 AM

Hahah I like a few nasty songs also, but I guess there are generally of the male variety. :)

Is she from NZ, by the way?

Scarlett O'Hara 03-01-2013 02:54 AM

Is it because she's female that it's a problem? If you can say you don't mind this song I will say you don't really dig nasty:

I guess I'm not really into that either.

Nasty songs I like: "Me So Horny" 2 Live Crew and "Closer" by NIN.

It's not a problem that she's a chick. I just don't find her attitude sexy or attractive.

You need to check out the Sexual Experience Thread by me, I'm a sex oozed cray bitch.

misspoptart 03-01-2013 04:44 AM

I know, Vanilla. I know. But it's all good. I used to be sex-crazed too until I met my mushy lazy fuzzy romantic cuddle-loving boyfriend. He stomped the sex drive right out of me.

I seriously don't know whether or not I should complain about it, haha.

:\

Your relationship sounds lovely, but it's up to you to ask for more sex if you need it. :D

misspoptart 03-01-2013 05:26 AM

Girl, you can't believe how hard I tried. The problem's not me or him really...it's his job. In his words, "his spirit is killed." Luckily he's been working on a career change. But yeah. Not a sex-driven person all-around. Maybe I should introduce him to Iggy....:P

Sparky 03-01-2013 09:40 AM

^sounds like a broke dick

i like iggy izalea aesthetically to some degree, im gonna go out on a limb and say her label drops her within the next 14 months.

Oh no that's exactly what's happening to my dad right now! Poor guy hope he gets a job that's more fulfilling so that he can have the work-life-balance.

djchameleon 03-01-2013 07:53 PM

I didn't like her single "Work" when I first heard it but it grew on me over time.

There better be some booty popping and pussy popping on a handstand in the official video though.

FrigginParadox 03-03-2013 10:11 PM

i actually like her to some extent i dont mind listening to her.

Cuthbert 03-22-2013 02:32 AM

I am on Youtube now listening to some of her tracks. I can't get past the accent, reminds me of when English MC's just started out and used to rap in American accents and it took the enjoyment out of the music for me.

I also don't like the fact she mentions the fact she is white in so many of her tracks. Too much sex as well, I don't mind people making songs about that as long as it's done with tact. Not sure why I've clicked this actually, I don't like Trap so not sure what I was expecting. Thought I'd give her a chance though.

Something constructive: I think she'll be successful although I'm not sure how long Trap is going to stay relevant.

djchameleon 03-28-2013 11:40 PM

Yes! She didn't disappoint at all.

She decided to do a play off of death proof's lapdance scene

DantedaDude 03-30-2013 02:16 PM

I like her overall image but I don't think she will go far at all.

Scarlett O'Hara 03-30-2013 04:21 PM

I really hope she does, I want her to be the Gaga of hip hop.

PALM 03-31-2013 06:03 PM

She sucks

That's it, she just sucks!

djchameleon 05-05-2013 07:59 PM

idk how I feel about this song yet but the video is pretty amazing :tramp:

I think I preferred work a bit more to this but maybe it'll grow on me.

Ass Napkin Ed 05-05-2013 08:40 PM

She has a horrible name.

That song was bad & the video gave me flashbacks of being in India & trust me it's not as fun as this video makes it look.

Murda biz is her best single to date, but I doubt she'll make it.

Engine 05-06-2013 06:57 PM

At first I assumed that she grew up as poor white trash in a trailer park in Florida because of the accent she uses. That was fine with me, and I kind of liked it. But now that I know she's just role-playing, I like her music less. It was far from great to begin with. Her music career won't last and I doubt she'll make it in Hollywood. She can act, but not that well. I hope she knows how to save her money.

This 100%. And she doesn't have the talent to make me forgive it like I did with Joey Bada$$.

I think she has a pretty lucrative modeling contract as well, so there's that. If nothing else im sure she can get a reality tv show or maybe she can judge on a future version of "who's got talent rappers edition" i don't doubt her entrepreneurship for some reason.

I agree. I can't guarantee her popularity such as Rihanna's but I believe she will continue to make rap music and will do modelling alongside it. Thanks to her creativity with 'Pussy' and the associated music video she was launched into the mainstream world and was widely marketed. In the end, I think she's end up with her own empire which she will build over time using fame to sell her brand.

Which leads me to my next point. To the person who said she is different from her onstage persona - yes that is correct. She is a very down to earth and hard working individual. I don't see how she is any different from other pop and rap stars who have a onstage "personality" and a offstage "personality". Don't forget they are entertainers, they are paid to be how they are marketed as. It's the record labels who motivate how we see a mainstream artist, not the artist themselves. I don't think Iggy has lost her original onstage persona though, I believe that is what she wants to be seen as, as well as her label. Ti is a very supportive coworker.

She might not have grown up poor but the accent she uses is because of her being in the south and rapping with those around her. Yes, she sounds a bit too much like T.I. at times but I dig it.

Yeah, I read about her rap education. And now all I can hear is someone doing a not-quite-accurate Dirty South accent with mediocre beats behind it.

Sparky 05-09-2013 08:30 AM

iggy azealia banks would be a interesting merger

It would be a powerful entity

Rakido 05-09-2013 07:40 PM

she's hot !

plus her tracks on trap gold were pretty sick

SamGalaxy 05-10-2013 01:40 PM

Iggy Azaelea sucks d-d-d-Donnkkey Dong.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6IAFUzmgSU

I mean... too many trashy bars to count. But heres a couple:
"Theres a party on your face and I'm about to dance on it"
"Ask for my number or you can fly a kite"
"Feeling froggy? then ribbit"

Shes so fake too...

Scarlett O'Hara 05-10-2013 03:29 PM

Like you can do better?

I despise people who say "bla bla band/artist sucks" it's lacking in intelligence.

SamGalaxy 05-10-2013 03:34 PM

I cant do better but the rest of the music industry can.

You do realise that it's just your opinion right? She has a half decent fan base, and they can't be all tasteless idiots right?

I would have been more impressed if you had some logic in your argument like most people on Music Banter instead of saying someone sucks. How about expanding on why you dislike them as an artist.

SamGalaxy 05-10-2013 03:50 PM

Her bars are weak. Her flow is fake. Shes less original the Nicki Minaj (She bit off her flow). Shes a poser. Her dad is a rich real estate agent. She embodies greed.

And ofcourse these are my opinions what else would they be? :usehead:

Circe 05-10-2013 04:14 PM

My personal opinion on why I don't like her:

First of all, I hate her name, big time. I realise that's not actually a legit complaint but there are those names that just sound so awful to my ears that I have to wonder how anybody could have ever considered using them, and hers is one. I know people get riled up at her for supposedly stealing it from Azealia Banks but she quite evidently didn't so I don't accept that as a reason to dislike her.

Secondly I really don't like her voice. It's just so painfully faux-American. I don't really know what more I can say about it.

Thirdly I think her music's just plain vulgar. When it's done well I genuinely love sex in music but songs like Pu$$y just invoke feelings of revulsion in me. Dealing with the subject in any kind of music requires a kind of passion and drive to it while her lyrics just come across to me as cold and distant. It makes me think of a pornstar rapping about her day job than someone who's actually enjoying going down on another woman.

Of course I recognise that these are merely my observations and opinions and that other people will not feel the same way about her etc.

P A N 05-10-2013 04:16 PM

Im with circe, pretty much verbatim.

Thank you, someone who can write more than one sentence about something about an artist with legit reasons why they don't like an artist. Take note spamgalaxy.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-19-2013 04:14 PM

That's fine, she's my lady anyway. :D
