Wtf's

Does it really matter? Seriously, what counts the most is the talent, the skill, the art of their gift in sharing their craft to the ones that are down to listen. Music speaks for itself not the color of their skin nor race/etc.

but here is a crazy theory

i think black ppl don't care much about the skin tone of rappers i think they care about the struggle

their "street cred" as they say..
it's very much like the saying "To play the blues you have to pay your dues" if they see a suburban white boy getting a head start in the rap game simply because white rappers are scarce they are bound to call them out

Not to mention black ppl are wary of white ppl to begin with (Slavery will do that)

rapping is not all about skills it's also about your background
This is why all these black rappers have to say they were drug dealers in real life before they became rappers

it doesn't even matter if it's f*ckin true or not if you don't have some sorta poverty ridden background you got no street cred

especially in a genre like rap and hip hop which is 90% a rag to riches story were even the more artsy kinda rappers are not above plugging the hood

i dunno about that i mean look at mac miller

some blakc ppl see hip hop as 'theirs' or whatever

@butthead

i had to look up Mac miller i didn't know him and i saw this vid called 'Nikes on my feet' which didn't impress me much know any better songs?

i liked his flow but his lyrics and his style seem to be emulating the flow of black rappers.. the song was full of pretentiously urban references hell the title alone is 'Nikes on my feet'

i wanna mention eminem because i think he is one of the few respected white rappers

When eminen broke into the scene and started as slim shady he didn't start by acting all ghetto and gansta he started by making fun of himself.. even in his days were he was rap battling black rappers at house parties (and slaying most of them) he didn't sound like a copy of a black rapper he had his own flow which goes beyond black or white you relate to how clever he is and what he is saying and his approach

It was unique, it's still is

i think this is why black rappers respect him and actually fear him (lyrically)

I highly doubt mac had it rough. He grew up in a highly white area with 2 parents in neighborhood that made good money. I think so many rappers are fake that its hard for any of em to call anyone out without offending someone they're cool with or gave worked with

Agree, rappers talk so much rubbish.

I don't think Mac has ever claimed that he grew up living a hard, rough lifestyle though.

He didn't have it rough at all. His dad is an architect and his moms a nurse I believe. But he did make mix tapes that got him noticed because of his skills on the mic. He even placed in local area MC Competitions. I think rap is more about putting in work then having street cred. I find the rap game gets tiresome when it gets watered down with the ordinary joes, rap needs a re-birth of conscious lyrics acts.

He is also a stoner that ran in those circles and grew up with Wiz Khalifa. So he gets his pass that way.
