I posted about this further back and deleted it but I'll try again. Here are 3 great examples of rappers who can sing. Live performances so you can't claim it's studio editing:

Aloe Blacc (the lyricist for the rap group Emanon). A new take on Michael Jackson's Billie Jean.

Krizz Kaliko.. he's kind of like the Cee Lo Green of hiphop. He's a choir boy from the south who hooked up with Tech N9ne. Starts at ~0:40.

Whitey Ford from the group Everlast performing their hit.

I think the problem is you don't know sh*t about artists in the industry outside of what the mainstream shoves down your throat. Keep being ignorant.

^Keep Being Ignorant would be a great title for a rap track.

If you don't like rap than take comfort in the fact that the genre has already peaked & is on the decline, just like punk, heavy metal, disco, new wave, classic rock, jazz, reggae, and every other musical genre that runs its cultural course.

If you don't like a genre of music than don't listen to it, who cares if its more popular than the ones you like.

I liked rap but I will never find another decade better than the 90's for that genre.

I liked heavy metal, but I will never find another decade better than the 80's for that genre.

Cultural isn't static & musical genres come and go like the wind, so don't sweat it.

It's more popular than ever. Mainstream pop has adopted rap as a way to break up the constant singing and still include lyrics. Rap is at an all time high as far as I'm concerned. Maybe not in quality, but definitely in accessibility and mass appeal. Also, there is an entire underground culture of hip hop artists that can easily stand against the best rappers of the 80s/90s, whether it's lyrical content, rhyme schemes, wordplay, story telling, or live performances.
