Skits

What do you think of skits?
Do you enjoy them, find them humorous, think that they are a nice addition to the music? Or do they annoy you and lessen your enjoyment of an album?

I personaly strongly dislike them. Mostly it's just some stoned blabbering that might be funny coming from a friend at a party, but seems annoying and stupid on an album and even skits that actually are funny and cool loose their appeal after you've heard the album two or three times and you just wish the music would finally start again when they come. I always really enjoy albums where the artists didn't think they had to pad its length with skits.

I agree, can't stand them. The latest Hail Mary Mallon has some obnoxious skits on it that I can't wait to skip. It's a shame because it's a fantastic album too.

I dislike them when they show up in the middle of an album, generally speaking, but the first thing that came to mind was the opening track/skit of Liquid Swords which is ****ing rad. I guess it comes down to the momentum of the album for me, if the flow comes to an abrupt halt without good reason, i.e. an Eminem style skit, it's just annoying and really adds nothing positive to the listening experience. The same could be said for most filler tracks.

Could someone post an example?

Skits are rarely posted on youtube.

"Who Would You ****?" from Ghostface Killah's "Supreme Clientele", almost three minutes of yapping (my god, i sound like blanche), is a prime example, but it isn't on YT either. (Just the instrumental is uploaded, which has no annoying talking in it.)

Ok, I see. I have a sort of skit at the end of my first album. It's an exerpt from the Jabberwocky. People saying they hate 'skits' made me a bit apprehensive about it.

Actually, it fits in the context of what I had envisioned.

Something like that could be cool. I think that concept albums (bar hiphop releases) are pretty much in the clear, though I'm admittedly at a loss to provide examples of non hiphop skits.

Mm. Food is filled to the brim with skits, but I never think if those as filler or something to skip in fact I look forward to the series of segway track during the middle of the album, plus I love the long skit at the beginning of Beef Rap.

Most of the time, they bother me, although they can be fun if sufficiently brief.
The whole"f*ck the king" thing on the new shellac album was fine, as it only lasted like 5 seconds.

I guess I'd be cooler with it if they were less of an afterthought, and actually funny or thought provoking or something.

Actually, ja I do tend to enjoy the DOOM skits. So I guess they're not all terrible.
