I was basically going off of things I've read on the ever-reliable internets. I just saw a clip of him being interviewed by Talib Kweli, though, and his voice is a lot deeper than DOOM's. Not quite Barry White-esque, but it ain't shallow- that voice is deep.

good point. however, metal doesn't kill the competition. at least i've never heard of any instances. i' very likely to be wrong on this subject.
