Sound like normal-ish pop rap. What am I missing?

It's like some dude who'd never rapped in his life took a mouthful of assorted pills and is just having the time of his life and recorded himself drowning in a Phil Spector-ish wall of sound if it fell off a truck and got sold on a New York street corner.

21 Savage
Kodak Black
a boogie wit da hoodie
bryson tiller
NBA Youngboy

They're all off shoots of what Future invented

Mumble Rap is like I said earlier just a derogatory way to describe Trap

They usually don't bother much with complex rhymes because it's more about not upsetting the hypnotic flow

It's for the most part a southern thing

Very early 2 Live Crew was mostly chanting behind ridiculous bass

It's also a descendent of DJ Screw - as in meant to be listened to high as **** on purple drank and purple weed -everything is purple-

Lil Yachty and Lil B could go in there. I don't listen to the genre much.

And no it's not a derogatory way to describe trap. I'd consider it a product of trap, a subgenre, but not trap it's self. Like A$AP Ferg is undeniably trap music but he's not mumble rap. It's the only thing I know to call it.

It's like the influence of 36Mafia crashed and ran into the the influence of 80s & Heartbreak and created a baby. Starting probably with Future with many more to follow.

Edit: But not all "mumble rappers" would fit in with Yachty. Because Travi$ Scott can rap his ass off. He doesn't just put out ridiculous lyrics like Yachty and Lil B. Yeah, he has basic club lyrics but doesn't say **** like she blow me like a cello.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Peek A Boo is a good jam and the flippancy of using the word cello to get the rhyme where obviously he meant flute is hilarious and clever. It's like whatever the **** old white people listen to.

I don't think it's as good but the texture reminds me of Purity Ring

i'm not really a fan of yachty, but he did own up to the whole cello/flute mistake. i mean if krs-one can rap about the wrong beastie boy being dead, then yachty should at least be given some leniency.

i think mumble rap is kind of loose as a descriptor. if it's only attributed to rappers with incoherent lyrics (because they're "mumbling")--and that's the only requisite i've known the genre to have, so correct me if i'm misguided about this--then it's confusing on how that incoherence is gauged. i'd guess young thug, lil uzi vert, lil yachty, and famous dex are shoe-ins, but i never really thought of the likes of denzel curry, travis scott, and kodak black incomprehensible enough to be frequent additions to mumble rap playlists as much as they are. are a chunk of drill rappers lumped into the genre by extension?

tiller seems like a weird inclusion in that list, unless i'm missing something in his discography

A lot of modern trap artists like to use those really airy witch house beats.
