Hmm... show me a vocal jazz artist that's waving around guns and wads of cash while singing about slapping bitches around.

Total stereotype of hip hop, but bear with me.

My point is that it's not quite realistic to pretend hip hop doesn't have an unfortunate element to it - which lazy people who don't know what they're talking about then use to paint a negative image of the whole genre.

It's like how folk metal bands struggle with accusations of white nationalism because some folk metal bands use such imagery and more or less openly peddle such beliefs.

It's not like these percetions of these music genres are based on nothing, but that also doesn't mean they are in any way fair to apply broadly.
