I love Saw Red that they did with Gwen Stefani, and I like Santeria but i've never really had the urge to listen to much else by them

Also, most everybody is a copy cat if you think about it. But when you look at Sublimes completely original songs, you can't help but admire how soulful Brad was and how talented his band was. |

Ever noticed how similiar What I Got is to Lady Madonna by The Beatles?
|
Don't even get me started on similarities.

Edit: Anyone like this new Dirty Heads song thats out? |
I have heard Sublime periodically throughout my life but recently have been awakened to all new types of music and stumbled upon Sublime. I'll be honest, in iTunes currently I have 8 of their albums and I have been listening none stop! Great band!

google "The Ohms" they are a phenominal Reggae/Rock/Dancehall/Ska band from Cincinnati Ohio and they are on the rise.
they have played with Steel Pulse, SOJA, Pato Banton, Badfish, 40 oz to Freedom and many more and their vocals and message is very positive and uplifting for fans of: Sublime, Slighty Stoopid, Pepper, Rebelution, SOJA, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Damian Marley, Steel Pulse, Operation Ivy, The Pilfers....ect |
anyone got any views on robbin da hood???
good, bad, worth buying??? |

What about Badfish? They're a tribute band to Sublime, I think they're performing at the Brooklyn Bowl this friday, and headlining the garden grove festival later on this summer

These guys occupy a curious place in Musical history. Because they blew up post-mortem they have a "I was there" culture around them. I don't know how to put my finger on it but they seem to be, all things considered, a rolled up version of
The Doors The Greatful Dead Joplin and the early days of death row records all in one. |

definitely one of my favourite band. big inspiration musically.
|
Sublime are a band that always seem to arouse a lot of anger when discussed online. I'm not sure if it's because of a "frat boy-smoking weed is so cool" stereotype in America or something? Probably mixed in with "not being real ska" and "not being real anything", not being brilliant musicians, having some poppy hits and setting a trend for all the other poppy/punk/ska hybrids . In the UK they don't get any airplay, not sure if they ever did as I only really got into them about 5 years ago.
I like em though, Santeria is a great tune and I really like Caress Me Down They have some tidy covers that introduced me to some proper ska/reggae artists, thought Nowell had talent, even if he gets a little bit too much attention-it's just like any other artist that dies at the height of their fame I guess. |
Sublime is one of my biggest inspirations, they had such a unique sound and overall feeling to their music. They were a big reason for me becoming a musician when I was a wee lad.
|
i had this CD
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...elf-Titled.jpg Which was a great buy, i remember that the hits where 'What i got' ' Wrong way' 'Santeria' but my favs were 'Burritos' & 'Seed' Seed for me is still the best song that merges all their Ska/reggae/Punk influences.. he had a real honest voice, and the songs had a commercial appeal maybe if Bradley hadn't OD they woulda had a more respectable career |
For those who do not know, Sublime reformed with a singer/guitarist called Rome Ramirez. They released an album in 2011 under the name 'Sublime with Rome'

I am a fan of Rome and the new incarnation.
If you like Sublime, you should also check out The Dirtyheads, strongly influenced by Sublime. |

I'm not really crazy about Sublime with Rome. I feel like they should have named it something else. Their album they made with him is pretty good, but I didn't really listen to it more than once. I have seen them play live the past two summers and I gotta say he definitely puts on a strong performance. Hes a really great singer and emulates Bradley damn well. I'm just not into their new songs, just wanna hear the classics. Oh and hell yes the Dirty Heads are awesome "Cabin by the Sea" was 2012s best album for me. Every song on the album is excellently crafted |
i do love all of their songs :)
|
Badfish!
|
I've just recently got into sublime.. I have date rape ad wrong way on nonstop play.. A truly great band.

dude get their albumSecond Hand Smoke you'll def dig it :thumb: |
I got into sublime and listened to 40 oz. and Garden Grove religiously, and then got into 2nd hand smoke. I never realized how many bootlegs and Eps they have out their with all their early, raw demos.
They're my 1st or 2nd fav. tied up with 311, but I am a big fan. |
Quote:
Yeah that have a lot of bootleg stuff and radio interviews/perfomances as well. You ever check out their compilation Everything Under The Sun? Really great 3 cd set that as a whole bunch of rough cuts, live stuff and unreleased material. |
I like Sublime, but a little Sublime goes a long way for me.
|
|
I just pulled them up on Spotify the other day, they were a fun band, great for a road trip
|
I didn't really like Sublime when I was younger, then again I knew like two songs, but a I've since revisited Robbin the Hood, and it's a kick ass album, I could do without the soliloquies though.
