Third-wave/ska-punk definitely had it's short comings, but you're right some of those walking basslines were chugalicious, and the songs were just plain fun at times. Amid the contrived and, in retrospect embarrassing moments of 3rd wave there were some pretty indulgent moments, but for the sake of clarification and the continuing education of other members:

First wave/rocksteady -Jamaica - ca. 1955 - 1965:

Second Wave/Two-tone - Great Britain - ca. 1975 - 1985

NY Ska (at least I count it as a separate genre) - New York City 1980 - ???

Ska punk Mid 80's - ???

Third Wave - America - late 80's - Ad nauseum

Brother it's just another ignorant **** who thinks they know **** and back up their arguements with lies without giving the music a chance but we've all done it I used to say The Misfits were gay but that was before I actually listened to them I just got tired of all the kids wearing these sweaters of as band they didn't even know play something real rockin don't tell the ****er what it is just casually jam out and if he asks what it is just tell him because I can guarantee hes just saying he hates it along with everyone else because they wont give it a try they wanna be popular and like everyonwe else at lweast you got your own **** going so if they dont like it oh well **** them you got your own way to rock out and id rather listen to something none of my friends know than something they all know and can act phoney about dude

i can't really stand ska-punk (311, Sublime)

i don't like 3rd Wave ska much either (Mighty Might Bosstones, early No Doubt)

i only listen to the 2-tone 2nd Wave stuff (Specials, The English Beat) and the Jamaican stuff (Toots & The Maytals, the Skatalites)

I guess I like all kinds of ska. I just never really understood the Specials and such.
It doesn't seem so interesting to me.
I prefer old jamaican two-tone and skapunk myself.

Really? The Specials Debut is not just a classic 2 tone album it is a classic British album full stop and still utterly relevant lyric wise and musically very adventurous. Maybe a revisit is required?

Just because someone dislikes something or doesn't have a preference for it doesn't mean necessarily they 'hate' it. The word hate is used too much nowadays.
