Ska-P, Streetlight Manifesto, and Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution are all new artists that I've found in the past few months.
|
Ska P are pretty solid. Have you heard Ska Cubano? They sound exactly as the name suggests and it's just so much fun! Bandits are a new one on me. Is it decent Ska and not that pop guitar claptrap I hear far too much?
|
It's good, but I'm not sure how ska it is, I got it in a compilation pimp but it's really solid stuff. I'll get it upped for you in a day or two, I've got a few other things that need to go up before hand.
As far as Ska Cubano is concerned I have not heard them before, but they have spiked my interest and will do some research. |
There's a group from Michigan called Monkey Jacket, some may have heard. they are more or less pop/punk with ska influence. The vocals are neat however, and Hello, Solo is a catchy tune. :-)
Other than that though, I'm sure most of the suggestions I can give have been said already. honorable mentions go back out to The Specials and The Toasters though. |
Ska artist
I Voted For Kodos are nice guys but since they lost their entire horn section they sound more like a ska-influenced pop-punk band.
Regards & Thanks Peter |
The Aquabats and Big D and the Kids Table are cool, along with some of NOFX's stuff.
Some more Ska-Punk/Ska-core bands are Operation Ivy, Leftover Crack, Choking Victim, Oh, and 311 is really unique, I would definitaly give them a listen, My favorite is there s/t. These guys are more Pop-Punk but there still pretty good, as much as I don't like Pop-Punk Rancid Less Than Jake Goldfinger and the Assorted Jelly Beans are really cool, I highly recomend them, similar to Operation Ivy listen to there self titled album. I probably shouldn't even bother saying this since I know you know these guys but Sublime. |
If you havent heard catch 22 or bandits of the aucustic revolution id easily back up the people that suggested them. Also, MU330 and Suicide Machines, at least their old stuff. Oh and new catch 22 sucks taint after Tomas Kalnoky left to start Streetlight.

my favorite ska bands are Big D and The Kids Table, Streetlight Manifesto, Sublime, and Leftover Crack.
I also looove Less Than Jake. I saw them at Warped Tour, they were awesome xD |

the toasters mustard plug (older stuff is more ska newer is more rock and roll but still good) Save Ferris (really cool 90s band with a girl singer look up their cover of come one Eileen) Toots and the Maytals operation ivy |
A local: SKA-P
Played on Roskilde this month, quite good, in Spanish. |
Pinstripes, The Frankl Project
|
Westbound Train, anyone? They are a really great traditional style ska band from Boston. Nothing like streetlight, but definitely recommend checking them out.

Half Past Two at Downtown Disney.
I was recently at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA. for the Labor Day weekend and found a Ska band called, "Half Past Two" performing. I took three videos of them and posted them up on YouTube. They thanked me for posting the videos that I shot at Downtown Disney. The lady on lead vocals was cute.

The is good stuff, I love ska music
|
Anybody know of a ska band from the 50's (i think) named The Jolly Boys? I've been trying to get a hold of their music for years.
|
I don't think I saw Skankin Pickle throughout this whole thread. Why are they not mentioned yet?
How about some Let's Go Bowling, Jump with Joey, The Upbeat, Attaboy Skip? |
Mephiskapheles
God Bless Satan |
Old style but good stuff.
Hi there,
I would try listening to JAZZ JAMAICA. I'm pretty sure most of the guys are based around London but they play in the old style much like the SKATALITES. Gordon. |
phyllis dillon, picture on the wall, not stricktly ska, more rocksteady, class all the same.

I'm a big fan of most of the bands on the Asian Man Records label. So yeah, MU330, Voodoo Glowskulls, Mustard Plug, third-wave stuff.
|
I dig on Mephiskapheles. Particularly the Maximum Perversion album. Good ****.

The Expendables are great
|
Hepcat, The Aggrolites, The Specials, Madness, Desmond Decker, Go Jimmy Go, No Doubt! The Slackers, Bob Marley and The Wailers too start with
|
My first experience with ska was Reel Big Fish, and they're still a favourite. There's also the Aquabats!. I think they're recording a new album, too.
|
bands like sublime and the wailers are the best
|
I love some Skatalites every now and then. Some people consider them just a standard jazz-esque band, but whatever it is, I really dig their style.

Alright, after hearing some Reggae on a friends iPod, I actually liked it. I have always known Reggae music but never paid any attention to it. The only song that is on my iPod that I consider Reggae is Sensee Party by Eek-A-Mouse. So if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear it. I like the type of Reggae that makes you feel good, if you know what I mean, don't take it the wrong way.
