Bob Marley and the Wailers created some of the greatest reggae music ever made! People easily site him when it comes to the reggae genre because he is a icon and made such an impact on the genre. I think that one of the reasons why his music is so special and recognizable is because most of the messages in his music are so universal. He always wrote about positive, political and social changing issues that were thought provoking but still were catchy behind his awesome instrumentation. I prefer a lot of his material that he did with The Wailers though. I've listened to other reggae artists but none of them move me as much as Marley's music. His music really speaks to the soul and fun to dance too!

Yeah they were really a magnificent group and such great songwriters. The vibe of their songs always got to me when I was growing up and it stuck to me. Such a easy listening blend but like you said still with deep messages buried within the mellow riffs and smooth melodies. Bob and The Wailers will always have a special place in my musical heart. I don't think I will ever stop listening to him haha!

You really can't go wrong with any of their discography but I really love the old old recordings on the Songs Of Freedom CD.

No problem! That is such an excellent album def check it out, their early recordings had more of a ska up beat sound. Really cool. And hell yeah Bob is one of my all time favorite vocalists, he had such a powerful voice.

Ziggy Marley has had a really good release record and definitely stuck to his fathers roots, I havent listened to him extensively but I do like what I've heard. I always wanted to see him live.

Other than Ziggy, I've listened to some of Damien Marleys works, I like Welcome To Jamrock a lot. I like how he has more of a hip hop vibe to him. He is really talented, I think he needs to get out there more though. He has had limited releases, but he has a lot to live upto haha

I loved your old avatar lol I thought Stephen's collab with Erykah Badu was really beautiful. I mostly listen to Damien. I think he is the most talented out of all of them. I don't think he wants to be mainstream. I think he enjoys what he does and likes being artistic. I like the album he did with Nas.

Because of his inspiring words, and all that he changed Bob Marley! But as far as other raggae artists I'd have to say Matiayahu and Sublime!

If we're counting only Reggae artists, and not Dub, then I'd say Fat Freddy's Drop! I've seen Patti Smith, Coldplay, Chinese Man and other artists from every background.. But not even Jamiroquai, which are the best when it comes to have some fun, could match Fat Freddy's Drop's massive live gig I saw two years ago in Milan. It was THE concert.
But if we're counting sub-genres, then I'd say The Spaceape, a Dub poet who died a few weeks ago and also my favorite musician. R.I.P.

I won't state the obvious which would be the King Bob Marley so I will have to say my next in line is Dennis Brown. Love this mans music, I could listen over and over again! He is definitely missed.
