Question Reel Big Fish?

Whatcha think of them? I like some of their stuff, but I'm still making up my mind. I know they have a strict following, but also a lot of people that don't like them. So do you love 'em, hate 'em, or just don't care?

Truly it depends on what song and what mood I'm in. Some is good and some is HORRID! But songs like "beer" and others are not bad in my book. Of course i'm not a huge ska/emo fan.

I'm not big on ska either, but they are pretty good. Good enough if they were at Warped Tour I would probably watch them, but I don't think I would go see just them, but who knows... But they are OK.

Here's a thought; let's stop labeling music and fighting over what genre a certain band is, and start listening to whatever pleases our ears no matter what anyone thinks of it! ;)

RBF is pretty good..I have a few songs on my computer...
Beer is good, and their cover of Brown Eyed Girl is one of my favourite covers ever.

You're right, their covers are good. I love the version of Hungry Like the Wolf. I have tons of their stuff and yes, Rock, I have the Cheer Up cd and listened to it and nothing else for the first month I owned it. :-D

As a band, they're super (and super live, to boot). However, I would argue that they are not a Ska band, but are a Punk-With-Horns band (which is decidedly NOT the same thing). Most Reel Big Fish lacks the Ska beat, making it stylisticly much more Punk Rock than anything else. So musically, they're a great band - just not a great Ska band.

Yeah, I've seen them plenty of times live and they definitely do rock. Last time I went they pulled someone out of the audience and let him play with them... actually not exactly. The guy had a sign saying that he wanted to play on stage to they made him play Boss DJ I think it was by himself... eventually the crowd got into and then the band came back on stage and did the song with him... it rocked.

All right as an aside. Save Ferris? Just wanted to know whether Alejo thought that was Ska or another Punk with Horns band. Any other opinions are welcome as well. I listen to tons of stuff but I really can't call my self knowledgable by a long shot... especially with categorizing music.

I would say Save Ferris is punk with horns band. I dont' really like ska(or punk with horns) altogether, just a few bands. Reel Big Fish is one of the bands i really like, along with Five Iron Frenzy, and Save Ferris is pretty good too. Less than Jake is ok, although the only cd of theirs that I really find myself liking is just Losing Streak. Great cd though.
