the whole idea of 'Kyuss Lives' just doesn't seem right to me.
it's like going to see Led Zeppelin with someone filling in for Jimmy Page. besides Scott Reeder was a more substantial bassist than Oliveri, though, the association to QOTSA likely gets them more press.
i think Homme said it best in a quote close to that same wiki blurb from earlier. i'm paraphrasing here but basically his view boils down to - Kyuss was a very special band, it had a very special run, and now it's over. if you were there when it happened you were one of the lucky ones that shared in the magic with the band. if you weren't, then you weren't, that's luck of the draw. not gonna piss on the memory of something great for a buck.
i think that really sums it up. Kyuss has the reputation it does because so few people actually went out to see them when they had the chance. it's not like it's hard to find their material or live clips of what it was when it happened. but to try re-doing it 15 years later with a random guy trying to fill an iconic role and a bass player who's got a proven track record for getting way too messed up, way too often instead of the guy who stuck with them for their 2 biggest albums kind of makes you wonder just what's up.
