Is Marilyn Manson an intelligent person, far more so than many people believe? Yes. But is he a genius? Not even close.

Merkaba 04-12-2006 10:49 PM

^Not musically anyway. Back in the day he was a genius at scaremongering, particularly to the parents of wee kiddies, now he's a little quiet. His music is alright, the nu-metal style band is nothing fancy but his vocals are pretty good.

And yeah I hear he is quite the intelligent one. Talks at universities and the likes of.

dog 04-13-2006 05:11 AM

he seems kinda smart on the bowling for columbine documentary. dont like his music though. not a genius.

He was absolutely right on Bowling for Columbine. Him and Matt Stone from South Park. Very smart people.

boo boo 04-13-2006 08:19 AM

He wrote a couple of articles for Rolling Stone...Hes actualy a pretty good writer, and he is certainly much smarter than he looks.

His music however is, meh.

Nikie Pentagram 04-13-2006 10:24 AM

Manson has a lot of bad press. He's original, some of songs are good. I myself must admit that I went through the Manson Phase. My fave' song of his, if it was a cover or not I don't know, was New S***, and then the remixed version was best, on his single album along with `Personal Jesus`.

Blain 04-15-2006 06:36 AM

Nope never liked marilyn manson never will, but you cant hold it against him for what he believes in...

Yes he is definitly a smarter person than he appears. I have to give him credit in the bowling for columbine documentary because he did state some pretty valid points on the matter.

swim 04-15-2006 10:36 AM

yea, he's smart but, his music blows

1. “The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they're supposed to like, what they're supposed to buy, and what they're supposed to laugh at.”

2. “You should have to pass an IQ test before you breed. You have to take a driving test to operate vehicles and an SAT test to get into college. So why dont you have to take some sort of test before you give birth to children? When I am President, thats the first rule I will institute.”

3. “what happens someday if more people own my record than the bible? that will make me god because a lot more people believe in me than him? Because itsjust about popularity. ther are plenty of people in the world how have never heard of jesus, while America takes him for granted. The key is to change what is popular. that's why rather than submit to to the mainstream, you have to become it _ then over come it”

4. “Marilyn Monroe wasn't even her real name, Charles Manson isn't his real name, and now, I'm taking that to be my real name. But what's real? You can't find the truth, you just pick the lie you like the best.”

5. “It's the whole Nietzche philosophy of you are your own God. That's why I debase myself in the concerts and tell people to spit on me. I'm saying to them 'You are no different from me'.”

6. “i talked to Snoop doggy dogg today. well I'm not sure if you could realy call it talked because I could hardly understand what he was saying. But i think he was trying to communicate was that he wanted to work with me in some sort of capacity and something involving marijuana.”

7. “And that's the type of thing I'm trying to speak out against the most, religion controlling what we see and what we do in our personal lives, even if you're not a part of that religion. Antichrist Superstar[the album] is a challenge really, to traditional morality and it's...to make people question that and make people think about different perspectives.”

The Dark Poet 04-15-2006 01:14 PM

It`s hard to see Manson talking to Snoop Dogg.

tdoc210 04-15-2006 03:00 PM

i think marilyn manson as many of you have said is a very smart man and i respect him standing up for his beliefs no matter how controversial but in a sense he looks for the controversy too much but i am a marilyn manson fan i like his songs hehe

Nikie Pentagram 04-19-2006 04:35 AM

^ Here here. Some of his stuff is good - but y'know, he does do a lot of covers. The Tainted Love cover I liked though - but still preferred the original.

MURDER JUNKIE 04-19-2006 04:39 AM

He's a twat

He had his tail between his legs after Columbine

Nikie Pentagram 04-19-2006 04:41 AM

Charming. What happend?

MURDER JUNKIE 04-19-2006 04:49 AM

Seems he shook his satanist routine pretty quickly

From Alice Cooper to David Bowie in just a few months

oneandonlymea 04-19-2006 05:54 AM

either way .. i still like his music.

Nikie Pentagram 04-19-2006 07:18 AM

Lol, each to their own.

Scarlett O'Hara 04-19-2006 11:14 PM

I personally think he's an anti-christ son of a biatch, but there's something dark and seductive in his voice that makes me listen to his music only. I love Tainted Love and Sweet Dreams, even though they are covers, he just made them so eerie and sensual. If I'm ever in an angry music listening day, he's the one. Not that I would ever condone (sp?) his values or actions.

ShadowSurfer 04-20-2006 12:28 AM

while he is a good entertainer and more a performance piece than a true musician, I can;t see anything worthy of being called 'genius' in anything he does.

he crafted an image MTV ran with...

wanderlust 04-20-2006 05:02 AM

yes i have to agree he aint a genius jst very clever in wot he does

Nikie Pentagram 04-20-2006 05:29 AM

He made some intelligent comments in an interview that I was reading from him. I think he's an intelligent person, and I don't think he's as hardcore as he and the press make out.

MURDER JUNKIE 04-20-2006 07:03 AM

even the devil can quote scripture to suit his needs

Doc.DGAF 04-20-2006 07:32 AM

Imma quote 7 of you, bare with me...

In light of that I'll say this: Manson is an intelligent person, but believe it or not so are Eminem, Violent J, and alot of others in the music industry none-the-less, that doesn't mean they make good music or a good point. Manson just sells an image, if he really believes in what he's doing so be it, but I have my doubts. Reguardless his music is crap. His band's crap, his vocals are crap and his image is lame and unoriginal.
As for talkin' to Snoop, I kinda think Snoop would slap the taste outta his mouth.
As for quoting Nietzsche, I could sit here and quote you Nietzsche, Kung Fu Tze, Rousseau and more all on behalf of my beliefs all day long, that doesn't make me right, smart, or very influencial. Some would still say I'm wrong, crazy, or so on.

Sneer 04-20-2006 08:11 AM

Ingenius? you must be kidding. here is a guy that has relied on shock tactics to sell albums. there was a time when the band were the cool thing to like, now look at the - resorting to covering songs in order to hang onto to the slender fanbase thats left. the music itself is just run of the mill.

NaNaNer 12-26-2006 02:54 PM

^^ What he said..

I couldnt have put it better myself...

Tainted Love was the only song I would actually listen to by him..and he didnt even write it.

[MERIT] 12-26-2006 02:55 PM

I heard he's starting a new line of cologne that supposed to smell like, and I quote, "children".

Ever since I joined this forum, that song constantly crops up.
Marc Almond did a version, which I hate incidentally.
I have to say that Mansons version is the best of all the covers I've heard.
I prefer the original hands down, but at least he put a spin on it.

Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails are absolutly horrendous.

fact.

The Unfan 12-26-2006 05:53 PM

I don't like his music, but having met him in person on more than one occasion I must say that he is a pretty cool guy.

Chronotub 12-26-2006 08:59 PM

Don't like the mans music, it's bland, unoriginal and has been done so much better by many bands.
his whole "shock" image is pretty tame aswell imho

Raine 12-26-2006 09:48 PM

The biggest contributor to Marilyn's populairty is his image.
His music is ok. He did a few cover songs too many if you ask me.

The Golden Age of grotesque was ok. His best song is and probably and always will be the Dope Show.

He's just not a big thing anymore. (Not to say he ever really was).

I think people most know him for his small role in the documentary Bowling for Columbine
