Only on one album "Diabolus in Musica" which is their worst album.

That could be it's own thread, "The AC/DC of [Fill in the Blank]". For thrash I'd say it was Exodus, at least for 2 or 3 albums. Slayer was just too fricken good.

Best thing they ever did and an essential thrash relase, the only other albums they have that are any good are "Fabulous Disaster" and "Force of Habit"

As Almauro said, Exodus are the thrash equivalant of AC/DC for both their longevity and their ability to churn out one dull album after another.

They certainly do and must still be laughing all the way to the bank.

You also mentioned on another post "God Hates Us All" get it!!! Its one of Slayer`s best releases.

i can't stand "Hell Awaits" apart from "Necrophilia"

:crazy: Hell Awaits is their best album. It's so dirty and evil sounding. It didn't have the polish of Reign In Blood or the songwriting of Seasons In the Abyss, but it by far has the most character of any Slayer release. Not to mention, the beginning of "Hell Awaits" is the greatest intro to any song ever.

^ agreed. It up until atleast "Diablous in Music" was the sore thumb of the Slayer discography...

It is also my favorite from Slayer, The title track, "At Dawn they Sleep" and "Necrophiliac" are some of the best stuff they have done. What usually kills it for many is the production, even the band themselves say they were unhappy with it... but to me that is part of what makes it my favorite... it is raw, and evil sounding as The Batlord said.

It also features songs that go longer, almost having a sludge feel at times or adding some doom metal into it... I think this album was one of the early cases of an album that defined what would be Death Metal.. which was starting around that time to come into it's own. It as well as Possessed's "Seven Churches" I think played a huge part in defining what would come to be the Death Metal scene.. other albums played a part as well, such as Sepultura's "Bestial Devestation" and of course after that "Scream Bloody Gore" by Death, "Altars of Madness" by Morbid Angel and many others would come.. and much of it owes to "Hell Awaits" evil sounding production.

I love early Slayer, I think "Show No Mercy", "Haunting the Chapel", "Live Undead" and "Hell Awaits" are great stuff in the early days of Thrash Metal.

"Hell Awaits", once you get into it, learn to leave the production of it, is a great album, that seems to get more hate than it deserves. Along side, "Mental Funeral" by Autopsy, "Onward to Golgotha" by Incantation and "To the Depths, In Degredation" by Infester... it is truely one of the most evil sounding albums I have heard, and that is what Slayer represented at that time to me, making it a classic record.

It may not present itself as such on first listen, and takes some adjusting to, but once it has given a chance to grow on you, it becomes better.
