I think I am one of the few who actually thinks "Divine Intervention" is the best of the Bostaph years. Could be in part the fact that that was the album that introduced me to them, but also "Killing Fields", "Divine Intervention", "Circle of Beliefs" and "213" are in my opinion some of their best stuff.
"Christ Illusion" is so far the best of the ones that mark the return of Dave Lombardo, "World Painted Blood" was pretty weak I think. Though as I say "Hell Awaits" is my favorite Slayer album. GHUA is a good album, and a good return after "Diabolus in Musica", which is the weakest release, not counting "Undisputed Attitude". Also, "Decade of Agression" is one of my favorite live albums ever recorded. |
I have South Of Heaven, Reign In Blood, and Seasons In The Abyss. Debating whether to get Christ Illusion or God Hates Us All...

Decade Aggression is a great live double album. |
I meant not counting "Undisputed Attitude" as being counted with the rest, not counting it as the worst. I too like that album, and think it is a good one shot tribute to the bands Slayer were influenced by... I hear some critize it as "punk sh*t" and stuff like that, usually always by people who do ot seem to realise (or maybe just do not wanna admit) that Thrash Metal was an evolution of hardcore punk. Easrly Thrash albums seemed to show the influence more, Slayer "Show No Mercy" and Metallica's "Kill em All" for example. KeA in paticular, in songs like "Motorbreath" I think one can really hear the Misfits influence.
"Undisputed Attitude" is a cool tribute to bands that inspired Slayer... Verbal Abuse, T.S.O.L., Minor Threat, Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I. and others.... I think it works, not something I would wanna to keep doing, but as a one shot tribute to the style, I find it a good ocassional listen. The only thing about it, I am on Ian Mackaye's side when he says he was not a fan of the cover of "Guilty of Being White", because if them changing the last refrain to "Guilty of being right". I think that is as Ian says, offensive to what he wrote that song about, yet i like the "Filler/I Don't Wanna Hear It" covers.. That is a minor nitpick on it though, the album is still decent if looked at in context. |
Old news for those in the know:
Slayer Announce Replacement for Jeff Hanneman It does seem like Hanneman won't be back at all which is a shame because he was their main songwriter generally. I wouldn't be surprised if the band called it a day as recent live appearances have Araya looking bored quite frankly. |

I have not heard much info on Jeff after the whole Flesh Eatting Disease... would like to know something new... might be replaced if they have to cut his arm off or something.
|
If there are any cooler reasons for leaving a band I can't think of one right now.
