No, "shut up" wasn't obvious actually. The sign of a selfish person is that he/she knows exactly what he/she is saying and expects other people to understand. You knew what you meant by "Shut up", I didn't. It wasn't obvious.

Yeah, Atheist is one of my favourite metal bands. They're great. And Tony Choy is a good bassist.

Well it is pretty irritating when people do that. In most cases, the said subject had been solved. Even sometimes the thread starter has been banned by the time you post what you think about it so making him "learn somthing new" would pretty useless if that person is unable to even access these forums. I am not saying it happened here but somthing to thing about in to future.

Dlckson being a good singer is your opinion. His opinion differs and you had a right to disagree and debate. But you don't need to do is to shove you views in his face and make it like what you say is correct and he is some inferior mortal who needs to be trampled.

Being skilled has nothing to do with opinion.
It has something to do with actual skill.
He has good vocal range therefore making him skilled.

yes you can have an opnion on skill, in this case vocal, some people might not consider a wide vocal range skilled. Mabie they consider a loud voice skilled or how fast they can sing.

Then that person has a bad opinion, if they don't consider a wide vocal range a skill.

It is still an opinion. What Selzer did was force his opinion down bigdave117's throat. He really wanted bigdave to agree with him truthfully he wouldn't have yelled and insulted him. All Selzer really wanted to do was to feel cool and rightous by "pwning" the "music noob".

I know that. I just didn't notice how old the thread was. But technically you are jumping on me and using your words, "pwning the noob". A bit hypocritical, yes?

I wasn't criticising his musical taste. I was identifying a phenomenon that happens to many people and it has happened to me. This problem is where you're trying to get into metal, you've started with (and like) Metallica and it just seems as if no other metal bands are as good. It seems as if no other metal bands can write a song worth listening to. It seems as if none are as melodic as Metallica. I know, because it happened to me. Then I realised, it's because I need hooks shoved down my throat to like a song. Then my musical tastes expanded as my attention span for music and toleration grew. But even if I used to need those hooks and disliked other metal, it was always painfully obvious that those other metal bands were technically more skilled than Metallica, even if I thought their songwriting sucked. Hence, why I insulted him for calling metal unskilled. It's not a matter of opinion.

It's not a matter of him being good. It's a matter of him being "skilled". My opinion of him is irrelevant, because D1ckinson is skilled and that is fact. You may not like his voice, but technical skill in music is not debatable; whereas songwriting is. If I say Yngwie Malmsteen is unskilled, that is factually wrong.
But if I say I don't like him (which I don't), that is opinion. D1ckinson is definitely not unskilled.
