Default Electric Wizard

Alrighty then. For those of you who like Sunn O))) or Boris or the Melvins or maybe Cathedral, anyone along that string of trippy assortments that grumbles behind the door of the rolling thunder that is doom then Electric Wizard are for you.

The band are very sluggish in their sound. They have chugging riffs and a sloppy sound with semi distant vocals. Some of the guitar work is brilliant amoungst all the heavy distorted bass and the drumming is above average but nothing too noticible as the bass and guitar play hugely in this band.

Originally were classified as Doom Metal with their opening album called Come My Fanatics, but later on were classed also as stoner rock for their advancement on their sound of sluggish oozing riffs. Many songs are long, often up around 8 minutes but they have some shorter snippets too at around 4 minutes. Some gooduns to check out:

Supercoven
Demon Lung
Wooden Pipe
Funeralopolis

Any fans already?

I'm a fan

Dopethrone is my favorite.

Come My Fanatics was their second album?

Yep, they had their self titled two or so years before hand but it was Come My Fanatics that was recognised.

..Oh I see what you mean, my mistake. Yes it was their second album, not their first.

I read somewhere when they signed up with their new record company they produced a song 78 minutes long and tried to make it a single song c.d. Never happened though.

Any band whose description involves Melvins and Kyuss in the same sentence deserves checking out. The name does almost make it sound like a Sabbath tribute, though. Not that that's a bad thing.

So Electric Wizard are apparently looking to work a new album out this year, frankly I cannot, I simply cannot, wait. Hopefully it turns out to be another fabulous album along the lines of Come My Fanatics or Dopethrone.

I really have nothing much more to add, just thought we could use something refreshing on the front page of the rock forum

What's everyones favourite tracks? I'm sitting pretty on Return Trip, Supercoven, Funeralopolis and We Hate You.

Oh and I must correct my opening post, they're most certainly not Stoner Rock, haha.

And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that.

I'll post again because I've been jamming Let Us Prey recently. Great, great, great smoking album.

Also good sober, but stoner doom is best enjoyed, well, high.
