their crap? lmao at that.

Have you even thought of the lyrics in 45 and burning bright? Those are beautiful songs and brent smith is a great vocalist. i mean, i don't like all their stuff, but they got some awesome stuff as far as alternative/grunge goes. I wouldn't say they suck no matter what.

well, i guess they have meanings, but i'm not so much into the lyrical aspects of songs. for me, it's the song itself, the instrumental parts and melody etc is what i look for in music, and shinedown just doesn't do it for me.

and believe me, i've heard plenty of them, philly stations play them constantly

i feel the same way with alot of music. But these guys are actually well respected so i hate to hear people say they suck.

What do you mean instrumental parts though, like guitar?

yeah, guitar, bass, and the like. good melodies/harmonies in the singing too

but you know well respected doesn't always mean they're the most talented. there's plenty of unknown groups with alot of talent and stuff.

definitely. Mainstream is mostly so generic and untalented i'm surprised they even get fans.

I think it is brents voice that gets them respect, because he has a powerful voice.

I'm all about the guitar myself. I hate crappy boring riffs for the most part. Gotta have solos too.

yeah, plus if the band mixes it up with song structures and such, that's like sex to me

AshleighJane 07-13-2009 07:29 AM

wow i love this new single... Sound of Madness
i love itt

Syffuf25 07-13-2009 01:10 PM

I saw Shinedown at the a couple months back just before their guitarist left, and they sounded great. Brent Smiths voice is just as good live as it is on record. However as fas as a performance it was alright. Not the best stage presence and the lights gave some chick a seizure. Overall it was a decent show.

Unrelenting 07-15-2009 11:48 AM

Remind me of Nickelback meets Hinder tbh

Anosa 07-15-2009 03:28 PM

shinedowns amazing! chevelle as well, and perfect circle

TumorAttitude 07-18-2009 02:41 PM

Its just the generic post hairmetal rock thats trendy now. All the bands in that scene sound the same. They are good live though.

Chaos 07-18-2009 08:18 PM

Shinedown is awesome.

All the teenybopper scene/emo kids have been ****ting themselves over Second Chance and now people have been labeling Shinedown as radio rock.

The Unfan 07-18-2009 08:29 PM

Shinedown has pretty much always been radio rock. Where the Hell have you been?

I love their new album.
Haven't heard anything older thoughh.

davedog 07-20-2009 03:17 AM

I've seen shinedown 3 times live and they were great everytime. thier earlier(2004 )shows had the most energy i have ever seen displayed by their frontman. Saw them about 7 months ago, not as much energy but they played alot longer since they have more great songs now.

Carolina4657 10-08-2009 10:36 AM

OMG!! Love them!! I can’t wait to see them perform at VH1 Best Cruise Ever. A cruise is exactly what I need!!!

FooFighting 11-13-2009 02:18 AM

Hmm... 3 albums? Ive heard one song and they are pretty average. Not bad, not good. The one song Second Chance, is catchy, but catchy won't win you awards when the rest of the songs arent. To be honest, they're only famous from the radio, which means they dont have many good songs

I'm sorry if it looks like I'm having a go at them- but they have had only one Chart Song, and nobody can even NAME their older albums.

RADIO ROCK RADIO ROCK RADIO ROCK

I dont mean it in a good way

yes, chorus is crap on 45.

joelovesmusic 11-14-2009 06:30 PM

one of my favorites from Shinedown is "Second Chance" and "If You Only Knew". i love the chorus parts

Rickenbacker 11-14-2009 07:24 PM

My bio teacher made fun of the "I'm not angry, I'm just sayin'" lyric in class last week, complete with an impression of the singer's ****ty post-grunge voice.

Best moment of my life.

lol.

IYT 11-17-2009 08:31 AM

In my eyes this band is ok. They could be alot better. All of their songs sound alright. The only thing making them "ok" is "second chance".

B_Hammock 12-07-2009 04:53 AM

Personally, I love this band, they are in my top 20 and the band would be better if it wasn't just the singer that was really talented. My favourite album is The Sound of Madness but I also like Us and Them, their first album does nothing for me though (except for Fly From the Inside.)

Musefreak14 01-16-2010 07:40 PM

I love shinedown.
to me, they are adressing poignant issues, while still being very talented.
Some songs sound very similar; but i guess that could be true with most bands.
I personally like the Crow & the Butterfly, If You Only Knew, Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide (because i can't figure it out) I Dare You, Heroes, 45, Save Me, and I Own You

missdeathpunch2011.xoxo 02-25-2010 12:21 PM

I really love the band Shinedown. I listen to them everyday on my ipod. They are one of my most favorite bands right now.. My favorite songs from them are Devour, Second Chance, Save Me, If you only Knew, the Sound of madness, and What a Shame/

IWP 02-25-2010 09:34 PM

They sound like every other mediocre post-grunge band that's popular today.

B_Hammock 02-26-2010 01:58 AM

To me, there is absolutely nothing mediocre about the singer in this band, his vocal range is incredible. I saw Shinedown live at Soundwave last weekend, they ****in rocked.

Kip1985 12-07-2011 11:23 AM

I quite enjoy Shinedown's music. I enjoy the melody along with the lyrics, but I guess if I like Nickelback, I can like anything, right?

Yeah but he sounds EXACTLY like Chris Cornell. Somebody we're given way too much of by the media, anyway.

That's weird. I saw them in 2009 and they were terrible.

Avenged Bullet 01-03-2012 05:50 PM

Saw them live a few years ago and I thought they were pretty good. I don't find that he sounds like Chris Cornell, but, everyone has they're own opinion.

Anyway, anyone hear their new song today?
It's called Bully and I really liked it.

And as to why some people somewhat like this band but have trouble becoming a fan is because they quickly turned into a cheap radio rock band shortly after their excellent debut album. This new single they have released titled 'Bully' is the worst yet, as if not even trying anymore.

This isn't opinion, this is fact. He sounds nothing like Cornell. Entirely different singing styles, ranges, tones and approaches to vocalization. Cornell is closer to Robert Plant than any modern raspy grunge influenced singers, such as Brent Smith.

Abstract 01-09-2012 02:17 PM

Not one of my particular favorites, find them to be pretty generic..

You forgot to mention that Cornell is actually talented(not just vocally but lyrically).

Shinedown sucks so bad it's a wonder they don't realize it themselves. They butchered a classic too! I mean come on, anybody that thinks their cover of Simple Man was good-or even decent-seriously needs to punch themselves right in the genitals. No f*cking around, do it right now. Both hands, full power, hammerfist-now.
