Ringo Starr.

Just kiddin'.

Though he is still pretty great

I dunno. Maybe Charlie Watts or Keith Moon. Or me. Also Stewart Copperland is great as hell. Not that I'm satanic, though.

Jaki Liebezeit of Can fame is pretty great. He has the same style of machine-like drumming as the drummer from Silver Apples, both of whom are understated in their skills because they usually use stripped down beats to compliment their music.

Best players are usually those ones who use their kills to support music- not vice versa.

One of my favourites is Kings of the Sun drummer Cliff Hoad, who uses a very small and basic kit:

I'd have to go with Mike Portnoy (Ex Dream Theater, The Winery Dogs, Adrenaline Mob)

Yea, all the guys in the poll are phenomenal players......legends.
But I would have to say Neil's (also a brilliant lyricist) playing style has probably influenced and inspired more people to play drums than anyone else in the history of music!

Prolly.... that guy from Tool, or Tomas Haake, from Meshuggah.
(Yeah, I totally had to Google that formal last name...)

Nice references, also, drummers are usually the least respected members of the band. Even though, they hold the whole thing together.
